The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts is rolling out it's 2013.2014 program with a special Black History Month tribute that includes performances by the DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM, a leading dance institution of unparalleled global acclaim, andSoweto Gospel Choir, South Africa's two-time Grammy and Emmy Award-winning choir.

The DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM's unprecedented success is founded on creating innovative and bold new forms of classical ballet that reach new audiences while playing a key role in the national cultural dialogue. Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell, the first African American dancer to become a principle dancer with a major U.S. ballet company (New York City Ballet), and the late Karel Shook, recognized as one of the most influential and productive ballet teachers of our time, the DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM will present its eclectic repertoire at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts with one performance on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 8pm.

Originally created to share the joy of faith through the inspirational power of African Gospel music, the SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR has been heralded as the most exciting group to emerge in World Music in recent years. Their spectacularly joyful performance style has made them a worldwide phenomenon, performing to sell-out crowds at the greatest concert halls across the globe and alongside superstars including Bono, Queen, Celine Dion, John Legend, Peter Gabriel, Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. The SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR returns to the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts as part of their 2014 North American tour, marking 10 years in music, with their show Divine, for one night only on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 7:30pm.

SONY CENTRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, Toronto's first performing arts centre, has played a defining role in the cultural life of Toronto for more than 50 years. Today, the newly renovated Sony Centre's mission is to unite the global citizens of Toronto through great artistic experiences. In addition, the Sony Centre is dedicated to developing Toronto's younger audiences through family programming; workshops targeted towards school-aged audiences, an under-30 membership program, and other community initiatives.
