Returning to the Buddies stage this Fall, the critically-acclaimed cabaret artist Ryan G. Hinds begins a season-long Residency at Buddies in Bad Times, under the musical direction of Mark Selby. Fabulously exploring everything from Disney villains to Aznavour chansons, Grace Jones tangos, Roy Orbison ballads and the theatre music of Kander & Ebb, this Residency promises grit, glitter, and laughter along with introspection in an intimate venue. For the first time, Hinds? distinctly diva style will be backed by a trio of musicians: Selby on piano, Ross McIntyre on bass and Julian Clarke on percussion.

Ryan G. Hinds is an award-winning theatre performer, critically-acclaimed cabaret artist and writer. Festival work includes World Pride 2014, sold out performances at Just For Laughs in Montreal (2013 and 2014), LA Pride (opening for Mya and Macy Gray), Nuit Blanche (2007?s collaboration with Will Munro/Art Gallery of Ontario and 2012?s collaboration with Douglas Coupland), and headlining appearances in venues in Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, and NYC. His popular "Cabaret, Comedy, and Coffee Talk" show at the Flying Beaver Pubaret ran for a year and a half to great reviews, and he previously helmed Granny Boots at the Gladstone Hotel. Theatre and film work includes: the short film Whatever Happened to Jackie Shane?; lemonTree creations? MSM [men seeking men] at Winchester Street Theatre; the remount of Bobby Del Rio?s The Trial of Ken Gass; Greta in Bent; Lilies at the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives; and both a stage production (as Hedwig) and the movie adaptation (as a Hed-head) of "Hedwig & the Angry Inch". Buddies' Artist Residency Program is a unique program devoted to the creation of original queer performance works. Resident artists are offered space in the Buddies building, dramaturgical support from the company's dramaturge, Mel Hague, and the company's Artistic Director, Brendan Healy. Artists also receive technical support, opportunities to present the work to a general public as it develops, financial support, access to the Buddies' network of contacts and partners, and any other artistic and administrative support that are appropriate to a piece's development. Since its launch in 2010, Buddies Artist Residency Program has yielded the following mainstage productions: Obaaberima by Tawiah M'carthy, A Monstrous Child: a gaga musical by Ecce Homo Theatre, The Gay Heritage Project by Damien Atkins, Paul Dunn, and Andrew Kushnir, and the upcoming Freda and Jem's Best of the Week by Lois Fine.
