Rarely Pure Theatre to Stage AS YOU LIKE IT, 1/9-26
Established director Rosanna Saracino (art&lies productions, REDHANDED, TPM, Randolph Academy, York University) helms this side-splitting classic featuring breakout performances by an explosive cast of promising emerging artists. Driven by Rarely Pure founding members, Christina Bryson (Isoprox Theatre, Toronto Masque Theatre, Feature Film: Fragile Minds), Spencer Robson (Paranormal Witness, Humber River Shakespeare, 4th Line Theatre), and David DiFrancesco (Theatre 20 Emerging Artist Ensemble, Hart House, Theatre Aquarius) and joined by the fresh talents of Katie Ribout (Paranormal Witness, Alumnae Theatre, Quixotic Arts Collective), Gaby Grice (Theatre 20 Emerging Artist Ensemble, First ACT Productions, Mnemonic Theatre) as well as Indie theatre veteran Benjamin Blais, (RedOne Theatre Collective, Theatre Brouhaha) this production promises to be a refreshing and exciting evening for the whole family.
Established in 2012, Rarely Pure Theatre is quickly becoming one of Toronto's more prolific independent theatre companies, combining the talents of seasoned professionals and emerging artists to produce work of the highest quality. Coming off last season's sold out run of Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman (2013 Best Independent Production nominee, Broadway World), Rarely Pure Theatre now takes on their largest production yet, sinking their teeth into this classic work which speaks to love of all shapes and sizes.
From a rigid court to a whimsical forest, William Shakespeare's As You Like It is a story of spontaneous love and friendships strengthened by adventure. In an imaginative new take, fraught with gender confusion and sexual tension, Rarely Pure "winterizes" this classic as an ideal kick-start to the New Year, sharing human struggle and triumph in a frosty, mystical wonderland.
As You Like It will be performed at The Storefront Theatre (955 Bloor St. W), one of Toronto's hottest multi-disciplinary hubs dedicated to the support of local independent artists. Since its inception one year ago, The Storefront Theatre has played host to over a dozen theatrical productions, a variety of community events, and by bringing over 6000 audience members through its doors, is quickly becoming a well-known and respected establishment in the community.
