TORN FROM THE PAGES, a series which brings together music and literature in an altogether new way, returns to the Harboufront Centre Theatre on September 23, 2016, presented by Massey Hall. Internationally acclaimed novelist Ian McEwan's latest work, Nutshell (Penguin Random House Canada), which is out in September, is at the centre of the seventh edition of the series created, hosted and curated by author and musician Dave Bidini.

"Torn From the Pages is among the most unique events that I've ever been part of: part concert, part literary circus, part tightrope of new performance, and part celebration of the ligament that connects spoken word, music and books," says Bidini. "Having Ian McEwan's work celebrated, and having him participate in the show, debuting his new novel, is among the crowning achievements of the series thus far."

Previous editions have featured some of Canada's most talented creators - John K. Samson, Tony Dekker, Mustafa the Poet, Christine Fellows and others - take on Governor General Literary Award-winner Nino Ricci's sixth novel, Sleep, as well as the work of Giller Prize-nominate Miriam Toews.

Perhaps best known for Atonement, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film, McEwan was awarded the Man Booker Prize - and has often appeared on its shortlist - as well as a host of other prizes. No stranger to music himself, McEwan co-created an oratorio (Or Shall We Die?) and an opera (For You) and has placed music and musicians at the centre of several of his books. The coming weeks will reveal the artists tasked with creating new works based on Nutshell.
