Audition Information Announced for the Canadian Production of 'ONCE'

Open call auditions for ensemble roles in the upcoming new sit-down Canadian production of ONCE will take place on Saturday July 26 at 9:30am at the Randolph Academy.

ONCE is a show performed by actor/musicians who can tell stories, create nuanced characters and make music and movement together as an ensemble. Each performer must be proficient at playing a musical instrument, or, put another way, each musician must be a skilled actor who can disappear under the skin of another character.

The first rehearsal for this production will take place January 5th, 2015. The production will go into previews on Februrary 10th, and will open on February 28th.

The casting will be handled by Dayton/Walters Casting. They can be reached a daytonwalters@sympatico.ca.

Men (20-55 years old) who play guitar. Additionally bass guitar, cello, piano, ukulele/mandolin & drum kit are extremely useful, but strong guitar playing is a requirement. Must also be a strong actor/singer.

Women (20-35 years old) who play the piano or violin/fiddle. You must play at least one of these instruments extremely well. Must also be a strong actor/singer.

Women (40-50 years old) who play the accordion and piano. Must also be a strong actor/singer.

Saturday, July 26. Doors will open at 9:30AM. Auditions will begin at 10AM. You MUST be signed in by 11AM to be guaranteed an audition.

Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts
736 Bathurst Street
Toronto Ontario,
M5S 2R4

A short folk/rock song in the style of the show. All actors MUST sing & accompany themselves on one of the instruments specified above. There will be a piano in the room. Actors must bring any other instrument(s) they play. Please also bring a recent picture and resume.

BroadwayWorld has also learned that Dayton/Walters is accepting submissions for lead roles to the email address oncetoronto@gmail.com.

NOTE FROM THE CREATIVE TEAM: There is no orchestra in ONCE, the cast plays all the instruments. This is NOT THE SHOW to become a musician - you must already be one, however if you played the violin (for example) when you were a teenager and haven't played for years, but have a natural talent, this has sometimes worked with previous productions.

Submission instructions In addition to appointmented auditions, there will be an open call in Toronto on Saturday July 26th. Please visit www.daytonwalters.com for further information.

1st Rehearsal: January 5, 2015
