After its premiere and sell out success at the National Arts Festival this month, the satirical revue PAY BACK THE CURRY!, written by award-wining playwright Mike van Graan and starring Daniel Richards, will be presented at the Baxter Theatre this August.

In the tradition of the award-winning BAFANA REPUBLIC satirical revues that used sport and the FIFA World Cup as entry points for biting social commentary, Van Graan's latest hit comprises a series of sketches that makes audiences think even as they laugh out loud. The creative team includes producer Siv Ngesi, director Rob van Vuuren, and the multi-talented Daniel Richards, who depicts a variety of characters in text and song that comment on all things contemporary: from falling fees, through sparrows on statues to Zupta zombies.

PAY BACK THE CURRY! went through a rigorous developmental process with initial drafts being performed to a variety of different audiences ranging from the Franschhoek Literary Festival to the Makukhanye Art Room in Khayelitsha, with written feedback after each show informing the next drafts.

PAY BACK THE CURRY! is at the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio from 15 to 27 August 2016 with performances on Monday to Friday at 19:30 and on Saturdays at 17:00 and 19:30, with tickets from R70 and bookings through Computicket. The show carries an age restriction of PG16.
