Producers Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group announced today that the longest-running show in Broadway history, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Harold Prince, will once again make theater history, reaching the unprecedented milestone of 12,000 performances. A feat achieved by no other Broadway show, the 12,000th performance will take place Monday evening, November 28 at 8PM at The Majestic Theatre (247 West 44th Street). (more...)

The Journey of HAIRSPRAY- From Screen to Stage and Back Again!

Tonight, America shall be introduced to the fourth incarnation of Hairspray. The first was the 1988 original film, the second was the 2002 Broadway musical, the third was its 2007 film adaptation, and now the 2016 live television production on NBC. Hairspray takes place in Baltimore, Maryland in the year 1962, where we meet a plump teenage girl named Tracy Turnblad, whose lifelong dream is to dance on the local TV dance program known as The Crony Collins Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show and becomes an overnight sensation, she luanches a campaign to intergrate the show. Thommie Retter (Billy Elliot) and Retter Entertainment ring in the holidays for the HOW MANY consecutive year with This Way To Broadway Live: Jingle Jam!, an original musical/song and dance showcase for audiences of all ages on Sunday, December 4 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre, 10 West 64th Street. The show brings together talented kid performers from the stage and screen-many of whom have already appeared on Broadway and on tour-and others who are Broadway bound. The script was penned by mother/daughter writing team Sheryl Berk and Carrie Berk (Peace, Love & Cupcakes: The Musical; Fashion Academy: The Musical) with original songs by Thommie Retter and Rick Hip-Flores (In Transit; Fun Home; Billy Elliot). Andrew Lloyd Webber to Waive SCHOOL OF ROCK Fees for Schools Producing the Musical

In his latest motion of support for promoting arts education in schools, Andrew Lloyd Webber said in an interview with The Times that he plans to allow schools to produce his latest hit musical, School of Rock, for free. Moreover, Lloyd Webber will provide the groups with scripts, scores, and other necessary materials for the musical. 'It's a no-brainer. School of Rock is about kids making music. Let's get on with it. You have to get music back into everybody's DNA again,' Lloyd Webber said, with regard to his opinion that schools should be able to perform musicals before they finish their commercial runs on Broadway, the West End, and elsewhere.  (more...)
