Barbara Petty Debuts With WHAT HAS MOTHER DONEBarbara Petty Debuts With WHAT HAS MOTHER DONE
by BWW News Desk - Mar 11, 2015

What Has Mother Done Book 1: Thea Browne Mystery By Barbara Petty Digital Release ($2.99) March 9, 2015 'A gripping drama unfolds as Barbara Petty explores the tensions between a woman with Alzheimer's accused of an unspeakable crime, and her daughter, an investigative reporter determined to clear her mother's name. Well worth the read.' -Sheila Lowe, author of the Forensic Handwriting Mystery series In a small Midwestern town, on a cold, blustery March day, a man plunges to his death off a high, rocky cliff, setting in motion a string of events that lead to murders and rips open the long-hidden secrets of the town's most prominent family... The man is George Prentice, and the woman the police suspect of murdering him is his wife, Daphne. But Daphne has Alzheimer's and, as she is likely to be incompetent to stand trial, has not been arrested. Daphne's daughter, Thea Browne, is a trained investigative reporter, who is furious that the police haven't bothered to look any further for a culprit other than her mother. She suspects her stepfather made enemies when meddling in local politics and, according to one of his cronies, George wrote a memoir threatening to 'blow the lid off this town.' As Thea follows her own investigation, she discovers a widening circle of suspects, some much closer to home than she expected. Even her best friend from childhood, Annie Biggs, seems to be keeping a deep dark secret that she refuses to share with Thea. More murders push Thea to the point where protecting her mother forces her to put her own life On the Line to track down a diabolical killer. 'Barbara Petty has written a riveting mystery reminiscent of Psycho. Somewhere, Hitchcock is smiling. And to think, this is just the first of the Thea Browne Mysteries.' -J.M. LeDuc, author of the Sinclair O'Malley series Barbara Petty was born and educated in the Midwest. After a sojourn in Paris during college, she went bi-coastal, starting in New York and then moving on to Los Angeles. She has been a newspaper reporter, a magazine editor and written animation scripts for TV shows such as Transformers, G.I. Joe and My Little Pony. She's also worked in the film industry, both on staff and behind the camera. 'What Has Mother Done?' is her fourth published novel, and the first of the Thea Browne Mystery series. Suspense Publishing / Suspense Magazine is located at 26500 Agoura Rd. #102-474 Calabasas, CA 91360. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Henry Holden's THE HITMAN AND OTHER SHORT PLAYS Is a Must ReadBWW Reviews: Henry Holden's THE HITMAN AND OTHER SHORT PLAYS Is a Must Read
by Don Grigware - Apr 17, 2015

Unlike books about the disabled that prey on your sympathy, The Hitman and other short plays show the disabled living within a mix of regular people, and facing the same conflicts and feeling the same emotions as everyone else. It's one big melting pot of human beings from every walk of life. There are the young and the old; there's new-found love and romance, and then there's marriage; there are politicians, actors and just plain middle class workers at IKEA and and in an optometry store in Wassila, Alaska. Henry Holden creates characters that are simultaneously similar and different...and we can relate to all of them. (more...)
