Other potential mates for Ruddy and Peggy also complicate matters.

BWW Review: ABC's NASHVILLE Could Learn a lot from Legit Soap Operas
by Matt Tamanini - Sep 24, 2015

Wednesday night's Season 4 premiere of ABC's NASHVILLE brought a heavy helping of the show's soapy best and worst. I make no bones about the fact that when it comes to TV, I have a few guilty pleasures; one is this country music, primetime soap opera, and another is ABC's lone remaining honest-to-goodness soap opera, GENERAL HOSPITAL. While NASHVILLE opens up its season with a heaping helping of delicious melodrama, I find myself becoming increasingly weary of the repetitive storylines that the show has been stuck in for the past season-plus. I think if Callie Khouri and her writers leaned in and fully embraced the show's soapy nature, it might result in a more fresh and creative product. So, I have come up with five soap-inspired rules that I think will help the NASHVILLE writers as they plot out the rest of the season. (more...)

Laurel S. Peterson Releases SHADOW NOTES
by BWW News Desk - May 24, 2016

Barking Rain Press, a non-profit fiction publisher, announced the paperback and eBook release of the riveting thriller 'Shadow Notes: A Clara Montague Mystery' by Connecticut author Laurel S. Peterson. 'Shadow Notes' is the first book in the 'Clara Montage Mysteries' series; a second book is planned. Peterson's other works include the poetry chapbooks 'That's the Way Music Sounds' and 'Talking to the Mirror.' Clara Montague didn't want to go home to Connecticut for Christmas. Her mother Constance never seemed to like her-or her intuitive dreams about the people she loved. Clara tried to warn her mother that her father was about to Have a Heart attack, but Constance wouldn't listen-and her father died. Now living in Europe, Clara dreams her mother is in terrible danger, and can't ignore it. Shortly after she returns, her mother's therapist (and former lover) Hugh Woodward is murdered-and Constance is jailed for the crime. Since Constance won't talk to her about the case, Clara decides to investigate by cozying up to her mother's former best friend, wealthy socialite Mary Ellen Winters. Mary Ellen insinuates that Constance has many sordid secrets to hide-and Hugh is just the tip of the iceberg. Frantically seeking clues to her mother's hidden past, Clara uncovers the file of 'shadow notes' that Hugh maintained to document his sessions with her mother, but they are snatched from her hands before she can read them. As Clara gets closer to the truth about Hugh's murder and its connection to her mother's past, threats against her own life escalate. Can Clara's intuition help her peel back years of high-stakes secrets to identify the real murderer? Ask for 'Shadow Notes' at your favorite bookstore, or buy it online at the Barking Rain Press website, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Powells, Waterstones, and many other Internet bookstores. It is also available as an eBook through Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, iTunes iBooks, Kobo, Content Reserve/Overdrive, the Barking Rain Press website and many other outlets worldwide. Interested readers can preview the first four chapters for free by visiting the Barking Rain Press website at BarkingRainPress.org. BWW Recap: Jon Snow Heads 'Home' in GAME OF THRONES
by Jessica Naftaly - May 2, 2016

Episode two of Game of Thrones just aired tonight and with it, we got a lot of what we had last week, shocking deaths and violence, but we also got the answer to everyone's burning question. Is Jon Snow really dead? The episode, entitled “Home” not only was named so because of the word being dropped quite often in dialogue, but several of our primary characters dealt with their families, identities and “homes”. I would say this is one of the closes instances we've gotten on this show of having the title actually play a key role in the total events of the narrative, but alas, it still struggled to remain thematically relevant, despite it's frequent usage.  (more...)

BWW Recap: 'The Winds of Winter' Have Blown on GAME OF THRONES
by Jessica Naftaly - Jun 27, 2016

Last night was the finale of Season 6 of HBO's Game of Thrones and after a riveting epic episode of battles, we got something rather different this week. It had your standard Thrones finale elements; death, shocks, violence, and twists. However, most of it didn't really make much sense. We got plot development, but Thrones just seems like it's on a high speed train, eager to get to the final stop, without caring about the journey along the way. We had to say goodbye to a great many cast members this season, but this episode alone wiped out so many that it was hard to take a moment to even feel the impact of their character's death. The show has really embraced the 'efficiency is coming' methodology and it can surely be felt in this packed, fast-paced, and rather convoluted episode built on shocks but devoid of logic.  (more...)

Glee-Cap: 'Child Star': The New-New Directions Shine, Find Romance, and Begin A New Dynasty!
by Robert Lawlor - Feb 28, 2015

Last week, wedding bells rang for two of Glee's finest couples, and there was lots of bliss and good times for all involved. With Brittany and Santana's wedding, one didn't expect anything less than something grand, and it was certainly grand. Brittany planned a big wedding in the barn she was born in, and despite panicking over all the details and things that could go wrong, Brittany had her lady there to give her an open mind. Of course, Santana was determined to keep Sue from attending their wedding and ruining the spirit of their love with her usual ways, but in usual Sue form - she got her way in the end and made a big splash by bringing Santana's Abuela to boot. After some real talk, Santana's Abuela was on the bandwagon, and Sue was part of the Brittana walk down the aisle. (more...)

BWW Recap: SCREAM QUEENS Reveals 'The Final Girl(s)'
by Gunnar Larson - Dec 8, 2015

SCREAM QUEENS, since its inception, has been a satire of college Greek life, a system that breeds hateful, self-obsessed people. Every few weeks in the news there's a story of a fraternity throwing a racist party, or spitting on veterans, or leaked sorority emails. Chanel and her cronies have been representations of these people. I would say exaggerations, but they're not. SCREAM QUEENS returns to these roots in a more than satisfying two-part conclusion.
