Last night at The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater at Eisenhower Park, Nassau County Department of Parks and Recreation presented Neil Berg's 100+ Years of Broadway for the 15th year! Over 10,000 people were treated to a concert featuring five acclaimed Broadway performers singing a mixture of Broadway and pop/rock songs that fit the climate of what is happening in our world today. Featuring Craig Schulman (Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera), Carter Calvert (It Ain't Nothin' but the Blues, CATS), and Rita Harvey (Phantom of the Opera), Danny Zolli (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Roosevelt Andre Credit (Big River, Porgy and Bess). Faculty for the 2016-17 school year at the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (JKO) School was announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and ABT JKO School Artistic Director Cynthia Harvey.  Joining the faculty this year as Principal Guest Instructor is former ABT Principal Dancer Ethan Stiefel.  Also returning to train the next generation of dancers is former ABT and New York City Ballet Principal Dancer, Robert La Fosse.  Both Stiefel and La Fosse will teach students in the ABT JKO Pre-Professional Division. As the White House readies a final desperate push for the unpopular Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, large crowds turned out for 'Rock Against the TPP' events in Seattle and Portland over the weekend as part of a nationwide protest tour featuring high profile celebrities including actress Evangeline Lilly, hip hop icon Talib Kweli, comedian Hari Kondabolu, and punk band Anti-Flag. NCTC Unveils Renovated Space at Benefit Gala

Today in 1983, La Cage Aux Folles opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1761 performances. With a book by Harvey Fierstein and lyrics and music by Jerry Herman, it is based on the 1973 French play of the same name by Jean Poiret. The original 1983 Broadway production received nine nominations for Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. The success of the musical spawned a West End production and several international runs. The 2004 Broadway revival won the Tony Award for Best Revival, the 2008 London revival garnered the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. The 2010 Broadway revival was nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. La Cage aux Folles is the only musical which has won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical twice and the only show that has won a Best Production Tony Award (Best Musical or Best Revival of a Musical) for each of its Broadway productions. Boston Landmarks Orchestra closes their 2016 Free Wednesday Concerts at the DCR Memorial Hatch Shell on August 31 (7 pm)* with another extraordinary collaboration with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC).  A concert performance  -  with music and dance - of The Boys from Syracuse, with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz Hart, and a new adaptation of the George Abbott book by Larry ( and Jennifer Hart with consultation by 3-time Tony Award librettist (Annie, co-librettist of The Producers and Hairspray) Tom Meehan.  The concert is free and open to the public. *If it is raining on August 31, the concert will be postponed to September 1 at the Hatch Shell.
