Producers of THE FANTASTICKS, Catherine Russell and Al Parinello have announced that they will now be able to keep Off Broadway's longest running musical from closing. Two donors (longtime fans of the show who have asked to remain anonymous) have stepped in and pledged to keep the production running, making the Sunday, May 3rd performance a 55th anniversary celebration of the opening of the show in 1960 - not a farewell. The full cast is announced today for The Father, transferring to the Tricycle Theatre following a hugely successful, critically acclaimed run last year at the Ustinov Studio in Bath. Kenneth Cranham, Rebecca Charles, Colin Tierney and Jade Williams reprise their original roles and are joined by new cast members Claire Skinner and Jim Sturgeon. Mayor de Blasio today appointed Lin-Manuel Miranda and Daryl Roth and reappointed George C. Wolfe to the Theater Subdistrict Council. As members of the Theater Subdistrict Council, they will be responsible for administering the Theater Subdistrict Fund and allocating grants with the goal of promoting the production of new theater work, developing new audiences, and showcasing Broadway's role in the history of American theater. Through its grants, the TSC has supported 37 theater education, audience development and accessibility programs as well as new theatrical works. From providing startup funds for new programs to enhancing or expanding existing programs of great impact, the TSC has recognized innovation and excellence in New York City theater. (more...)

BroadwayWorld has learned this morning that casting we previously reported for the Toronto production of Kinky Boots has been confirmed. American Broadway touring vet Alan Mingo Jr. will star as Lola - the role originated by Billy Porter in the Broadway production. Graham Scott Fleming will play Charlie Price, the young man who inherits a shoe-factory from his father, only to learn it isn't financially stable. (more...)

The City of West Hollywood has passed a Resolution to add Harvey Milk Day to its calendar of official holidays during which parking regulations for meters and associated meter time limits will not be enforced. The Resolution was passed on Monday, April 20, 2015 at a regular meeting of the West Hollywood City Council. Harvey Milk Day is celebrated annually on May 22 on the anniversary of Harvey Milk's birthday. West Hollywood is the first city in the nation to observe Harvey Milk Day as a holiday. (more...)

Shimmering and strutting with drag queen elegance, the TONY Award winning Best Musical of 2013, KINKY BOOTS, opened at Shea's Buffalo Theatre last night to rapturous applause by the near capacity audience. With an infectious score by 80's pop icon Cyndi Lauper as well as a fun and often touching book by Harvey Fierstein, KINKY BOOTS tells the dual story of a failing men's shoe factory in suburban England run by the son (Charlie) of the recently deceased owner and his chance encounter with an over the top drag queen named Lola. These two unlikely characters surreptitiously meet at a time when both need each other's help. Charlie is struggling to find a niche market for his shoe factory and Lola and her fellow drag queens are in need of some boots that can support a man's physique. (more...)

Gobodo-Madikizela is a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission determined to understand his actions. She questions de Kock, who is sentenced to two life terms plus 212 years for crimes against humanity, murder, conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, assault, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, and fraud. It is based on both the 1956 film The Catered Affair written by Gore Vidal and the original 1955 teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, set in 1953 in the Bronx.
