BWW Review: World Premiere BIG SKY Examines How the Truth Shall Set You Free
by Shari Barrett - Jun 20, 2016

The World Premiere of BIG SKY written by Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros and brilliantly directed by John Rando (Tony and Outer Critics Award winner for Urinetown) at the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse fits in nicely with the theme of the Geffen's upcoming 'Moments of Truth' season as revelations spoken by each cast member finally allow them to drop all pretense and work together toward a goal for their common good. And while the ending seems a bit obscure at first, listening to everyone talking about it as they were leaving the theater convinced me that something thought-provoking had just been shared with all of us. BWW Review: HISTORY LIT Presents Three Immersive Plays at Perfectly Matched Locations Around the Pasadena Museum of History
by Shari Barrett - Jul 19, 2016

When you check in for HISTORY LIST, you will receive a color-coded program which indicates the group with whom and in what order you will walk around the site to witness the plays. The entire audience returns to a central meeting point in front of the historical Fenyes Mansion, led by time period costume-matched Tour Guides who go on to appear as characters within the play at the location where they have led you. Try to stay as close to these guides as you walk with them as their comical banter is not to be missed. I truly enjoy asking them questions as we walked, knowing their improvised answers will perfectly match the characters they are playing. (more...)

BWW Review: Sidesplitting THE BOYS OF ST. MATTHEW'S PRESENT LES LIAISONES DANGEREUSES
by Andria Tieman - Aug 9, 2016

After last year's uproarious The Boys of St. Matthew's Present Tartuffe, Epic Theatre Company's boys are back in town with THE BOYS OF ST. MATTHEW'S PRESENT LES LIAISONES DANGEREUSES.  For those who may be unfamiliar with the premise--the boys of St. Matthew's are a pack of Catholic school boys with a penchant for performing raunchy theatre, despite being told by their head of school, Father Frank, that they are not allowed to.  The result is a play-within-a-play jammed with jokes and visual gags that will leave audiences gasping for air between guffaws. Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters Coming to Folsom
by BWW News Desk - Aug 22, 2016

Billy Bob Thornton - yes, that Billy Bob Thornton - performs on Stage One of the Harris Center with his American country rock/rockabilly band The Boxmasters, a group of seasoned musicians whose music is rich in rhythm and story. They're the real deal: their third album Modbilly reached #1 on the Americana Radio Chart and #14 on the Americana Music Association's Top 100 Albums of the Year, and they've toured as Willie Nelson's opening act. "They're working in the tradition of musical mavericks Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash, surveying the world for stories of ordinary people" (Los Angeles Times). Onstage, "the group shifts seamlessly between Nuggets-type garage rock and country-inflected ballads, with Thornton prefacing the songs with alternatingly poignant and outrageous stories" (Rolling Stone).
