Beachwood Brewing to Release Invasive Species 4 Packs
by BWW News Desk - Mar 20, 2017

It matters who makes your beer. Beachwood Brewing adheres to rigorous quality standards and cares about quality over profit shares. Craft beer has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and with that, big beer companies have been snatching up smaller breweries as a way to remain relevant in the changing landscape of the craft beer world. Big beer corporations have hijacked what it means to be craft, diluting and minimizing the meaning of craft beer.In fact, these big beer corporations create an uneven playing field for small independently owned breweries, by increasing their hold on raw materials, controlling distribution channels and lobbying behind the scenes. BWW Review: Ease On Down to Kokandy's Joyous THE WIZ
by Rachel Weinberg - Mar 13, 2017

Under the direction of Lili-Anne Brown, Kokandy Productions' staging of THE WIZ radiates joy, and at the performance I saw Saturday night, the audience was soaking up every single joyful moment. From my vantage point, I can say that the audience reaction comes from the satisfaction of watching a solid musical theater production that leans into the musical numbers and embraces this all-black version of the classic THE WIZARD OF OZ to milk it for every possible ounce of delight and vibrancy. All of the ensemble members onstage seem to be truly enjoying themselves, and that energy is undeniably infectious. (more...)

BWW Review: STATION ELEVEN by Emily St. John Mandel
by Bonnie Lynn Wagner - Mar 10, 2017

There is so much to say about STATION ELEVEN, and so little that can be shared without revealing spoilers. STATION ELEVEN is a book that unfurls slowly, one that introduces you to a multitude of characters and slips all of the puzzle pieces together later. It's interesting that Erin Morgenstern blurbed the novel because in her own debut, THE NIGHT CIRCUS, she also has a way of unfurling the story to move it along. Slowly, softly, but with great impact. BWW Review: LOOSE GRAVEL is Raw, Edgy and Occasionally Brilliant
by Frank Benge - Jan 6, 2017

LOOSE GRAVEL, a new work by Frank Wo/Men Collective, is a collaborative performance piece by a group of Austin and New York emerging artists that is part dance and part short theatrical scenes that span the gamut from comedic to absurdist and back to dramatic. The work is a gender fluid piece of thirty two individual vignettes that is multi-lingual in places. This highly physical piece takes risks that don't always work, but when they do, there are flashes of brilliance on this tiny stage. (more...)
