Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Executive Director Patrick Willingham, and Chair of the Board Arielle Tepper Madover proudly announce the addition of five new members to The Public's Board of Trustees since December 2013. The newly elected trustees of diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and interests are Ashley Leeds, Julio Peterson, Lisa Garcia Quiroz, Teresa Tsai, and Timothy A. Wilkins. From the Oscars to the Tonys, the Grammys to Emmys, awards ceremonies are always a hit-or-miss situation. Either the event is absolutely excellent or ends with spectators saying, 'Well, they'll do a better job with it next year.' The 2015 MAC Awards, presented by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs, and held once again this year at BB King's on West 42nd Street, absolutely fell into the former category. It was a splendid affair (albeit it's usual 3-plus hours) that was expertly directed by MAC President Lennie Watts. (more...)

A Tribute to Polly Bergen, produced by Rex Reed and Michael Alden with creative consultant Deborah Grace Winer, celebrated her life and career with a star studded lineup of participants. They included Christine Andreas, Harry Belafonte, Arlene Dahl, Raul Esparza, Michael Feinstein, Gregory Harrison, Judith Ivey, Chris Matthews, Phyllis Newman, Kelli O'Hara and cast members from the 2001 revival of Follies. Kate Baldwin and Conor Ryan, the stars of the Keen Company production of John & Jen, the musical with music by Andrew Lippa, lyrics by Tom Greenwald, and a book by Greenwald and Lippa, will head over to the recording studio on April 6th, to preserve the 2015 Off-Broadway Cast Recording for Broadway Records. A June 16th release is planned. Andrew Lippa and Michael Croiter will produce the album. Musical Director is Lily Lang. This recording will include the premiere of the new song, "Trouble with Men,' as well as new orchestrations and two songs from the score never before recorded. As part of its 2014-2015 Performing Arts Season, Japan Society presents Yokohama Rosa, the second theater production within the Society-wide series Stories from the War, marking the 70th Anniversary of the end of WWII. This represents the North American premiere of this one-woman play conceived by and featuring legendary actress Michiko Godai, which is performed annually in Yokohama on the anniversary of the end of WWII in Japan. Yokohama Rosa is written by the late Giho Sugiyama (1932-2004) and directed by Ichiro Onishi. This production plays two performances only at Japan Society (333 East 47th Street): Saturday, April 25 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 26 at 2:30pm. (more...)
