FALSETTOS is the Tony Award winning, Broadway musical sensation that will sucker punch you right in the heart. FALSETTOS is the story of a complicated and very confused man, Marvin. Initially, Marvin seems blessed with the perfect family. He has a caring wife, Trina and a young son, Jason. Nevertheless, the family is soon broken apart when Marvin leaves Trina for his new boyfriend, Whizzer. Trina, meanwhile, ends up with the family psychiatrist, Mendel. All the while, Jason is stuck in the middle. Included in the mix are the lesbian couple composed of Dr. Charlotte and Cordelia. Ultimately, the various characters are forced to come together when Whizzer contracts AIDS. FALSETTOS is about life, love and the decency and honesty that exists in all of us.

On Monday, September 9, the Theater People podcast welcomes Tony-winning director Michael Mayer and writer/lyricist Dick Scanlan. For the episode, Mayer and Scanlan discuss their new collaboration, WHORL INSIDE A LOOP which Scanlan co-wrote with Sherie Rene Scott and which Mayer and Scanlan co-directed. The play, currently running Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater, is loosely based on Scanlan and Scott's experience working with prison inmates on putting together a show based on monologues written by the inmates about the circumstances that landed them in jail. The Public Theater has announced a one-week extension for the critically acclaimed FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE, a world premiere musical by Michael John LaChiusa, BroadwayWorld has confirmed. Directed by Kirsten Sanderson, FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE began previews on Tuesday, October 6 and was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, November 15. The fall is a special time for Broadway fans, with new plays and musicals opening left and right. However, it is also a special time of year for sports fans, with the baseball playoffs in full swing, college and pro football seasons well underway, and the hockey and basketball schedules kicking off. Inspired by the fact that the New York Mets have advanced to the World Series to take on the Kansas City Royals, Jeff Walker and I decided to take a look at some of the places where sports and Broadway mix. After I graduated from The Ohio State University (college football's defending champion and current No. 1 team, by the way), my first few jobs were in covering and coaching college and professional sports.
