James Lapine is currently enjoying the success of his big screen adaptation of Into the Woods, for which he wrote the screenplay, and in a recent interview with Deadline, Lapine revealed that he has another musical in mind for his next stage to screen project. When asked what musical he'd like to see as a movie, he responded: 'Well, I want to do Sunday in the Park with George, but I don't know in this day and age whether you could get it made. But Irwin Winkler came to us when it was on Broadway and said, 'I'd like to do a movie of it. I can do it for this amount of money. You can direct it,' and I went, 'Yeah.' And the studio said no.' BSC is offering a select number of musical theatre students (in the areas of performance, direction and choreography) the opportunity to work and train with top-level New York directors, choreographers, and composers while spending the summer in residence as a part of an award-winning professional theatre company in the cultural capital of the Berkshires, just a few hours outside of Boston and New York. Inspired by the classic Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame has a book by Peter Parnell, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Laura talked about life after CINDERELLA, the roles she auditioned for but didn't get to play, starring in the upcoming CAROUSEL, raps Lin-Manuel Miranda style, and cruises hilariously through a lightening round. These three original Sondheim cast members share songs and stories, recalling their experiences creating their roles in these landmark musicals on Broadway. On Monday, December 29, Theater People podcast welcomes beloved Broadway belter, Lindsay Mendez. Mendez, who is well known for having taken on the role of Elphaba in the Broadway mega-hit WICKED for the show's 10th anniversary, made her Broadway debut as Jan in the 2007 Kathleen Marshall helmed GREASE. She was seen on Broadway in the 2010 Roundabout Theater production of EVERYDAY RAPTURE, as well as the 2011 Broadway revival of GODSPELL before being hand picked by famed director Joe Mantello to star in the off-Broadway Pasek and Paul musical DOGFIGHT at Second Stage. Paper Mill Playhouse has announced casting for its winter comedy, Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. This touching and wickedly hysterical Tony Award-winning best play features Broadway, television and film veterans: Philippe Bowgen (Spike), Gina Daniels (Cassandra), Carolyn McCormick (Masha), Mark Nelson (Vanya), Michele Pawk (Sonia) and Jamie Ann Romero (Nina). Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will be directed by Don Stephenson.
