BWW Reviews: And BEST OF BROADWAY 2 Begat BEST OF BROADWAY 3BWW Reviews: And BEST OF BROADWAY 2 Begat BEST OF BROADWAY 3
by Joseph Baker - Apr 24, 2015

Once again, it's Spring; and Once again, Stage Door Productions has brought professionals and nonprofessionals together to share their love of musical theatre and their talents in what is, by now, an annual event: THE BEST OF BROADWAY 3, closing this weekend at the KROC Center, is Director Brandon Kelly's latest 'greatest hits' collection to entertain Memphis' audiences. This is the second year I have attended this event, and even though a review at this point probably won't make much difference in bolstering attendance, BEST doesn't really need it. The audience here is 'a given' (and a vocal 'given' at that) - a multigenerational aggregation of relatives and friends, lovers of musicals, and people who simply want to be entertained; and in that latter respect, THE BEST OF BROADWAY 3 does not disappoint. BWW Recap: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Relaxes at a Killer B&BBWW Recap: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Relaxes at a Killer B&B
by Erin Resnick - Apr 23, 2015

Nothing says romance more than a bed & breakfast. Cute homes, delicious food, a real feel of being at home while being on vacation. Bed and breakfast's make even better prisons, especially when that prison holds gorgeous vampires trying to flip the humanity switch of their best friends. This week's episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, entitled “Because,” was charged with emotion, misplaced motherly instincts, and truths flying every witch (terrible pun intended) way. (more...)

BWW Review: Rollins' GUYS & DOLLS is Enjoyable, but Lacks Runyan CharmBWW Review: Rollins' GUYS & DOLLS is Enjoyable, but Lacks Runyan Charm
by Matt Tamanini - Apr 23, 2015

At its best, GUYS AND DOLLS will transport you to another time and place. A place where career criminals wear colorful, oddly-patterned suits; speak with humorous, but non-descript accents; and live lives in which their marker is their more sacred than gold. This place is called Runyonland. Unfortunately, as entertaining as Rollins College's production of this classic 'Musical Fable' is, it rarely ever rises to the Runyonland level. Running through Sunday, April 26th at the Annie Russell Theatre, Rollins' GUYS AND DOLLS is enjoyable, and again affirms why the program is one of the most consistent theatre companies in Central Florida, but lacks the joy and whimsy that makes GUYS AND DOLLS one of the greatest examples of the American musical theatre.
