Vineyard Theatre's Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern announce that Joanna Gleason and Chris Sarandon are set to host the 2017 Gala Fundraiser celebrating the 10th anniversary of Vineyard Theatre's hit musical [title of show] with Hunter Bell, Jeff Bowen, Susan Blackwell, Heidi Blickenstaff, and a toast to Broadway producer Kevin McCollum.  Michael Berresse will direct the gala show.  Larry Pressgrove will be the music director. The annual Gala Fundraiser will take place on Monday, March 13, 2017, beginning at 6:30pm, at Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). (more...)

WAM Theatre Announces Limited-Run Remount of EMILE...

WAM Theatre's eighth season continues with the limited run remount of the company's very successful 2013 production of Emilie: La Marquise Du Chatelet Defends Her Life Tonight, written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by WAM Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven, featuring the entire original cast. Cast Complete, Rehearsals Underway for Broadway's SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION

Rehearsals began this week for the revival of John Guare's critically acclaimed play Six Degrees of Separation starring seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney ('Mom,' The Girl on the Train) as Ouisa, Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey (The Normal Heart, 'Manhattan') as Flan and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, '24: Legacy') as Paul. Directed by Trip Cullman (Significant Other, Yen), Six Degrees of Separation will begin previews Wednesday, April 5 prior to the official opening on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Barrymore Theatre. Having the chance to see a brand new play always fascinates me. The time and creativity that the playwright has put into their work must be astronomical. I can't imagine the satisfaction and pride they feel when the curtain finally comes up on their vision. To help these playwrights realize their visions, The Strand Theater Company, a small theater in Baltimore County has devoted time and energy to producing only new works. In the case of this season, all of these works will be written and directed by female artists - a worthy cause in an industry where most men still dominate the writing and directing fields. Globally-renowned violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and her longtime musical partner pianist Lambert Orkis give 11 performances across the United States in Spring 2017. The duo have spent nearly 30 years making music together, resulting in numerous successful Deutsche Grammophon recordings, earning Grammy® Awards, an ECHO Award, as well as a Choc de l'Année Award. The recital program will be played in seven cities including San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall and Washington DC's Kennedy Center, with a program including works by Sebastian Currier – who previously wrote a number of other works for Mrs. Mutter such as Aftersong (1994) and Ringtone Variations (2013) - Mozart, Respighi, and Saint-Saëns. Mrs. Mutter concludes the tour with a four-date engagement with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andris Nelsons, where the concert program features selections by Tchaikovsky and Nostalghia by Toru Takemitsu, which Mrs. Mutter played at her 35th Anniversary concert of her Japanese debut. Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) annual Vine & Dine event held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Silver Street Studios treated its 300 guests to food and wine from around the world. Entertainment for this event was provided by students of the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) and featured songs from the various musicals represented in each region. The evening raised $135,000 for HSMT and TUTS other educational and community outreach programs. (more...)
