BWW speaks to Abbi Greenland and Helen Goal en about their Edinburgh Fringe 2016 performance of Two Man Show.

Tell us a bit about Two Man Show.

Two Man Show follows two men - John and Dan - as they try to work out how to be men in 2016. It also follows two women - Abbi and Helen, the makers of the show- as we struggle to work out how to be women. It's about masculinity, femininity and personhood. There's also a live musician with us on stage, who just might be a Goddess.

What inspired the piece?

We're always inspired by the issues that feel current and urgent. Over the past year or so we've been reading about 'masculinity in crisis' and we were interested in making an anti-patriarchy show that is about how damaging gender stereotypes are for both men and women. We make feminist shows, and mostly they're about women, but this one is about men too, because we want the movement against patriarchy to involve and engage everyone.

This isn't your first time at the Fringe - do you think you know what to expect?

Although we've been four times before, we haven't been back to gorgeous Edinburgh since 2012. Everything may have changed. We're ready for surprises. We're also at Northern Stage at Summerhall, which is new to us, and we're excited to be there and see the other shows at the venue.

The only thing we know to expect is to be exhausted and to see some shows that inspire and delight us ready for making more shows next year.

Who would you recommend comes to see Two Man Show?

If you like theatre with story, full-on movement and live music, it's for you. It's for both men and women who want to talk and think about gender, patriarchy and language. It's not just for people who are already thinking about those things, but for people who may not know they're interested yet.

..and who would you recommend doesn't come to see it?

I would hate to say that this show isn't for you. I honestly think and hope that it's got something in for everyone. I guess the material is quite grown up, but 14+ is a good guideline.

Describe Two Man Show in five words.

Playful, political, personal, furious, animal.
