Directed by Cora Bissett, Whatever Gets You Through The Night is a snapshot of life between the hours of midnight and 4am.

Part play and part gig, I first saw the show when it premiered in Glasgow last summer. Although a brilliant piece of theatre then, it now feels more polished and has gone from strength to strength.

The theatre element of the performance is a series of scenes that take place in those hours before dawn. From drunken antics and romantic encounters to working the nightshift and a woman going into labour everything seems to be covered. Although an absolutely beautiful piece, there is an overwhelming sense of loneliness. Which seems ironic considering the amount of people who have been working together to create the show.

Whatever Gets You Through The Night is a visually stunning show, but it is the soundtrack where this piece really excels. Featuring songs from the highest calibre of musicians such as Rachel Sermanni and Withered Hand the music is absolutely stunning. EuGene Kelly's track Chips and Cheese injects some comedy into the performance, the lyrics are something anyone who has been in Glasgow City Centre after 10pm will be all too familiar with.

The music from Whatever Gets You Through The Night is available to buy here as an mp3 download or as a book/album package.

Whatever Gets You Through The Night has a limited run at The Queen's Hall until August 25th. Performance times and ticket information is available here.
