The manipulative machinations of an avarice-crazed patriarch, who keeps as tight a hold on his family as he does his money, forces his children to comically extreme measures to secure their own happiness and independence. Throughline Theatre Company presents The Miser, tonight, September 14th at the Grey Box Theatre in Lawrenceville.

The Miser is a classic example of Moliere's satirical humor and wit. His over the top characters lampooned the attitudes of the time toward Love, Family, and Money, but their humor and their message remain relevant today. As the Classical installment in Throughline Theatre Company's season of Dysfunctional Families, The Miser gives a perfect illustration that the reality of family dysfunction existed centuries prior to the term and even the concept becoming a prominent part of our culture.

The Miser is the third production in Throughline Theatre's third season, which is the young company's first season in their new venue. In 2011, Throughline Theatre Company received a Proclamation from the Pittsburgh City Council in recognition of their efforts and achievements bringing high-quality, affordable Theatre to the region. The Pittsburgh City Paper called Throughline's recent production of August: Osage County "spellbinding." Throughline Theatre Company's four-show season focuses on the relationship between past, present, and future by presenting plays from varied time periods and arranging them to highlight their thematic and stylistic similarities.

The Miser will open tonight, September 14 at 8pm, and there will be an Opening Night Event that begins before the show at 7pm and continues after until 11pm. Performances continue September 15-22, Thursday and Friday at 8pm, Saturdays at 1pm and 5:30pm. Tickets are $15 or $10 for students and seniors. Tickets for the Opening Night Event are sold seperately and are $10. Tickets are available at the door or in advance online at showclix.throughline.com.
