BWW Review: A woman uses science to comprehend America in THE CHAOS THEORY OF NOW at Theater For The New City

When I sat down to see The Chaos Theory of Now, I found the pre-show music selections to be quirky.  Barbara Mandrell's 'I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool.'  Thomas Dolby's 'She Blinded Me With Science.'  k.d. lang's 'Constant Craving.'  Turns out the song choices were spot on.  The author and performer, Jennifer Joy Pawlitschek, grew up on a farm before becoming a science nerd and a lesbian.

Storm Large Brings Rock-Fueled Cabaret To Helsinki Hudson

Vocalist Storm Large, who shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova, brings her rock-fueled cabaret act to Club Helsinki Hudson on Sunday, September 29, at 8pm. Storm Large's repertoire ranges from original, sweaty and steamy hard-rock numbers; standards such as Jacques Brel's 'Ne Me Quitte Pas' and Cole Porter's 'I've Got You Under My Skin'; and rock-era ballads by Randy Newman and Lou Reed. She is also a vocalist with neo-lounge act Pink Martini. Storm spent the 1990s singing in clubs throughout San Francisco. Tired of the club scene, she moved to Portland to pursue a new career as a chef, but a last-minute cancellation in 2002 at a Portland club turned into a standing Wednesday night engagement for Storm and her new band, The Balls. It wasn't long before Storm had a cult-like following in Portland, and a renewed singing career that was soon to be launched onto the international stage.

The heavily anticipated 10th anniversary special engagement of Storm Large's autobiographical, one-woman rock musical Crazy Enough opens June 25 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Crazy Enough broke records at The Armory in 2009 with a sold-out, 21-week run. Beginning with stories of a childhood complicated by her mother's schizophrenia, Large takes us through the ups and downs of the years that follow - sex, drugs, running away to California, and the saving grace of rock 'n' roll.  Crazy Enough features original songs by Large and James Beaton, including the hilarious and incredibly catchy "My Vagina is Eight Miles Wide." Original music director Beaton returns to the production. Crazy Enough will open on Large's 50th birthday.

 Cris Jacobswill release Color Where You Are, the full-length follow up to his critically acclaimed 2016 album Dust to Gold, on April 12, 2019. Releasing through Blue Rose Music, Color Where You Arefollows Jacobs' brand of rock, Americana, and soul through the next steps of his life; coming off of a few years of extensive touring, learning to recognize the current political climate and its divisive nature, and most importantly, becoming a husband and a father. Jacobs and band members Todd Herrington (bass), Dusty Ray Simmons (drums/percussion), and Jonathan Sloane (guitar) self-produced Color Where You Are together, piecing together songs that Jacobs found time to write “between tours, coming home, changing diapers, fixing things around the house… whenever I could.' The album's title references Jacobs' no longer having the luxury of waiting for inspiration to strike. Nonesuch and New Amsterdam Records have joined forces to release approximately three albums per year over an initial three-year period. This partnership is the result of conversations between the two New York-based labels about their long-term shared values to support the work of several generations of American composers, with the intention of enabling those artists to realize creative ambitions that might not otherwise be achievable. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC are thrilled to announce legendary singer-songwriter Corey Hart as the 2019 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.  Hart, who has sold over 16 million albums worldwide, will be officially inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame during The 2019 JUNO Awards on Sunday, March 17. To celebrate his induction, Hart will take the stage at Budweiser Gardens to perform on live television for the first time in over 20 years.
