MOVIE MIXTAPE: SONGS FROM THE SILVER SCREEN to Feature Storm Large, Ashley Park, and More

The New York Pops, led by Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke, gives a concert entitled Movie Mixtape: Songs from the Silver Screen, on Friday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, joined by acclaimed vocalists Mykal Kilgore, Storm Large, Ashley Park, and Ryan Silverman. The orchestra performs iconic songs from beloved movies include "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz, "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's, "The Way We Were" from The Way We Were, and "Footloose" from Footloose.

Additional concerts in The New York Pops' 2018-19 season include: Unforgettable on Friday, February 8 at 8:00 p.m. with Nikki Renée Daniels and Ryan Shaw; and the orchestra's 36th Birthday Gala: Hat Full of Stars on Monday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. paying tribute to the music of Cyndi Lauper.

Steven Reineke has established himself as one of North America's leading conductors of popular music. This season Mr. Reineke celebrates his tenth anniversary as Music Director of The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. Additionally, he is Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Principal Pops Conductor of the Houston and Toronto Symphony Orchestras. Reineke is a frequent guest conductor with The Philadelphia Orchestra and his extensive North American conducting appearances include Atlanta, Cincinnati, Edmonton, San Francisco and Sarasota. On stage, Reineke has created programs and collaborated with a range of leading artists from the worlds of hip hop, Broadway, television and rock including Common, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Sutton Foster, Megan Hilty, Cheyenne Jackson, Wayne Brady, Peter Frampton and Ben Folds, among others. In 2017, National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" featured Reineke leading the National Symphony Orchestra performing live music excerpts between news segments - a first in the show's 45-year history. In 2018 Reineke led the National Symphony Orchestra with hip hop legend Nas performing his seminal album "Illmatic" on PBS's Great Performances. As the creator of more than 100 orchestral arrangements for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Reineke's work has been performed worldwide and can be heard on numerous Cincinnati Pops Orchestra recordings on the Telarc label. His symphonic works Celebration Fanfare, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Casey at the Bat are performed frequently. His Sun Valley Festival Fanfare was used to commemorate the Sun Valley Summer Symphony's pavilion, and his Festival Te Deum and Swan's Island Sojourn were debuted by the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops. His numerous wind ensemble compositions are published by the C.L. Barnhouse Company and are performed by concert bands worldwide.

Mykal Kilgore studied voice at Florida State University where he learned to hone his ability to go from singing a Broadway show tune to soul and jazz scatting to Gospel. In addition, his multi-faceted and multi-octave tenor can easily slide up to a crystal clear soprano, a feat unmatched by even today's most popular male vocalists. Mykal's sound is a gumbo of American roots music and modern feels, soul and storytelling. Mykal was most recently seen in the critically acclaimed production of Songs for A New World at Encores! Off-Center and as Simon in Jesus Christ Superstar at Chicago Lyric Opera. Other theater credits include Motown: the Musical and Hair on Broadway, as well as The Book of Mormon (first national tour). He has also appeared in TV/Film with roles in NBC's live productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and The Wiz, as well as Collateral Beauty. Mykal racked up over 10 million views on social media via his videos with Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox and his viral "Reclaiming My Time" video. Mykal has also performed to sold out audiences at Joe's Pub, Roseland, Birdland, The Kennedy Center, and in his own cabarets "MYKAL@54Below" and "MYKAL@TheApolloMusicCafe."

Storm Large: musician, actor, playwright, author, awesome. She shot to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova, where despite having been eliminated in the week before the finale, Storm built a fan base that follows her around the world to this day.

In the 18-19 season, Storm performs her one-woman autobiographical musical memoir Crazy Enough at Portland Center Stage and La Jolla Music Society celebrating the show's ten-year anniversary. Highlights of the season include debuts with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, the Maryland Symphony, and the Philly Pops, as well as return engagements with the Houston Symphony, The New York Pops, and the Louisville Orchestra, with whom she recorded the 2017 album All In. Storm continues to tour concert halls across the country with her band Le Bonheur and as a special guest on Michael Feinstein's Shaken & Stirred tour.

Storm made her debut as guest vocalist with the band Pink Martini in April 2011, singing four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She continues to perform with the band, touring nationally and internationally, and is featured on their CD Get Happy. Storm has also sung with Grammy winner k.d. lang, pianist Kirill Gerstein, punk rocker John Doe, Rufus Wainwright, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer George Clinton.

Storm's musical memoir, Crazy Enough, played to packed houses in 2009 during its unprecedented 21-week sold out run. Her memoir, Crazy Enough, was released by Simon and Schuster in 2012, named Oprah's Book of the Week, and awarded the 2013 Oregon Book Award for Creative Nonfiction.

Ashley Jini Park is a Grammy and Tony nominated actress born in Glendale, California and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she graduated from the famed Musical Theatre program at the University of Michigan.

Most recently she starred on Broadway in Mean Girls originating the role of Gretchen Wieners, which garnered her a Tony nomination for Featured Actress in a Musical, as well as Drama League, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Chita Rivera Award nominations in 2018. In the same season, she starred in the award-winning KPOP and was honored with the esteemed Lucille Lortel Award for Lead Actress in a Musical, as well as second Drama League and Drama Desk Award nominations.

Previous to this, Ashley made her Broadway debut in Mamma Mia!; originated the role of the stepsister Gabrielle in the national tour of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella; and starred as Tuptim opposite Ken Watanabe and Kelli O'Hara in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of The King and I at New York's Lincoln Center Theater, for which she was Grammy-nominated. Ashley then appeared in Broadway's Sunday in the Park with George starring Jake Gyllenhaal while filming the second season of Nightcap (Pop TV/Lionsgate/Dakota Pictures). She can be heard on the original Broadway cast recordings of Mean Girls, Sunday in the Park with George, and The King and I revival, for which she was Grammy-nominated.

She is the proud recipient of the Actors' Equity Association's 2018 Clarence Derwent Award and recently wrapped shooting on the first season of Netflix's highly anticipated Tales of the City, which will be released in June 2019.

Ryan Silverman starred in Side Show on Broadway for which he received a Drama Desk nomination for Best Actor. Other Broadway credits include star turns as Billy Flynn in Chicago and Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera. Silverman received Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for his performance as Giorgio in CSC's production of Passion. He has appeared at the Kennedy Center as Sir Lancelot alongside Brian Stokes Mitchell in Camelot and as Terry Connor in Side Show. Internationally, Silverman has starred in the Théâtre du Châtelet's acclaimed production of Passion opposite Natalie Dessay and as Tony in the Olivier nominated 2008 West End production of West Side Story. Silverman also recently starred in the concert version of West Side Story with the Philadelphia Orchestra and a staged concert version of The Golden Apple at City Center Encores! Other credits include Cry-Baby on Broadway, Finian's Rainbow (Irish Repertory Theatre), and The Most Happy Fella at New York City Opera. He recently made his debut at Paper Mill Playhouse starring in Ken Ludwig's play A Comedy of Tenors. Silverman starred as Sky in the 1st National tour of Mamma Mia!, and Jose in the world premiere of the new musical Carmen at La Jolla Playhouse. Silverman played the role of Rapunzel's Prince in Into The Woods at the MUNY. Regional credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie (Jimmy), Cinderella (Prince), Grease! (Danny), Hello, Dolly! (Cornelius), Assassins (John Wilkes Booth), Sweeney Todd (Anthony), Forever Plaid (Smudge), and Blood Brothers (Eddie Lyons). TV and film credits include The Good Fight, Gossip Girl, The 5 Minarets of New York, Sex and the City 2, and True Blood. Silverman has performed his club act the Café Carlyle (month-long residency) and Feinstein's at the Regency. He has appeared in concert with The New York Pops (Carnegie Hall), Seattle Symphony with Marvin Hamlisch, Philadelphia Orchestra, Philly Pops, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Cincinnati Pops, Utah Symphony, Houston Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, among others.
