Luther Burbank Center for the Arts Announces New Shows for 2018-19 Season

Today, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (LBC)made its spring announcement of 18 new shows added to the 2018-2019 season, continuing to showcase chart topping musicians, compelling dance companies, groundbreaking storytellers and authors and a wide range of holiday performances, all appealing to diverse audiences. Tickets for all shows go on sale first to LBC members on Monday, April 9 at 12 p.m. and then to the general public on Friday, April 20 at 12 p.m.

Ellen Starski To Release New Album THE DAYS WHEN PEONIES PRAYED FOR THE ANTS 5/11

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Ellen Starski is set to release her solo debut album, The Days When Peonies Prayed for the Ants, on May 11, 2018.  On the collection, which was written over the course of 12 years, Starski explores  both her homeland and herself, traveling from the coal country of rural Pennsylvania to the roots-music hotbed of Nashville, Tennessee, and creating a soundtrack to that period of self-discovery. The album is autobiographical and rooted in a lush mix of indie-folk, orchestral Americana, and organic pop. 

Top Keyboardist Darrell Smith to Release TIME + SPACE

Darrell Smith, one of the top keyboardists on the touring and recording circuit will release his debut album TIME + SPACE on April 15, 2018.  With a list of credits that includes working with a diverse group of artists such as Stevie Nicks, Jay-Z, Elton John, Janet Jackson,  Cher, k.d. Lang, Vanessa Carlton, Dave Stewart, Anita Baker, Lady Antebelum and  Darlene Love (amongst many others), the album is sure to spark interest with fans and musicians alike.    

Performances à la Carte Presents Jazz 'n Paz Spring Concert Series

Curated by Performances a la Carte, Jazz 'n Paz is back with their spring intimate jazz series of three concerts with some of Los Angeles' finest jazz musicians. Taking place on early Sunday evenings, this season's series opens March 11 with the internationally recognized Jennifer Leitham Trio; Lolly Allen & Friends on April 8; and on May 13, a blowout birthday bash with 2 + 1 + Bacharach. Jazz 'n Paz takes place at 5:00 p.m. at Neighborhood UU Church Sanctuary in Pasadena. Series subscriptions are now on sale, offering a discount from individual concert tickets.

Pink Martini, a McCallum favorite returns for eight great shows Friday, February 9, through Thursday, February 15. In 1994 in his hometown of Portland, Thomas Lauderdale was working in politics, with the intention of eventually running for office. Like other eager politicians-in-training, he went to every political fundraiser under the sun, but was dismayed to find the music at these events underwhelming, lackluster, loud and un-neighborly. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world, crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop, and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike, he founded the "little orchestra" Pink Martini in 1994 to provide beautiful and inclusive musical for political fundraisers for progressive causes such as civil rights, the environment and affordable housing.
