STARS IN THE ALLEY, presented by United Airlines, was held just yesterday in Shubert Alley, hosted by Darren Criss who is currently playing Hedwig in the 2014 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. To add to the festivities leading up to the Tony Awards, the free outdoor concert in the heart of the Theatre District celebrated Broadway with star appearances and exciting performances from over 20 new shows and long-running favorites, accompanied by a 12-piece live orchestra, including many of this year's 2015 Tony Award - nominated plays and musicals! The Public Theater's Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda (including special citations for Andy Blankenbuehler, Thomas Kail, and Alex Lacamoire) received the OBIE Award for Best New American Theatre Work, which is accompanied by a $1,000 check. The Signature Theatre's Founding Artistic Director James Houghton received the OBIE Award for Sustained Achievement. Knight, three-time OBIE Award-winner Tony Kushner, OBIE Award-winner LaChanze, two-time OBIE Award-winner Lisa Kron, artist Bradley Theodore, OBIE Award-winner William Ivey Long, and Village Voice editor-in-chief Tom Finkel. We survived the eleventh season of GREY'S ANATOMY, and most of us remained relatively unscathed. This, of course, does not include the thousands of supporters of the insane “raise McDreamy from the dead” campaign. If it helps at all, I heard on the radio* this morning that Patrick Dempsey was fired for having an extramarital affair with a cast mate. He must've taken his character a little too seriously; much like many of the fans. Let him go. Full disclosure: I'm still not over T.R. Knight's departure. #Hypocrite. (more...)
