Waterwell, one of the Village Voice's Best Arguments for Devised Theater and creators of GOODBAR and #9, continues its annual series of developmental workshop productions by commissioning a new play from Qui Nguyen (The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G, She Kills Monsters) for its senior Drama Class of 2015 at the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS). To be directed by longtime collaborator, Robert Ross Parker (Goodbye Cruel World, co-artistic director of Vampire Cowboys), the piece will premiere at PPAS in April 2015. (more...)

For the seventh year, Pontine Theatre presents a host of New Vaudeville performers at its annual WEST-FEST: New Vaudeville Festival. Performances are scheduled for 2pm, 26-30 December at Pontine's West End Studio Theatre located at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth. WEST-FEST is modeled on the Phyzgig Festival which was founded in Portland Maine in 1997. (more...)

Pontine Theatre presents it's original production, A New England Christmas, underwritten by Chris Dwyer & Michael Huxtable. Pontine's Artistic Directors, Marguerite Mathews and Greg Gathers, perform a selection of Christmas stories and poems by New England authors, including Mary Wilkins Freeman, William Dean Howells, Sarah Orne Jewett, Ogden Nash and more. The show combines lively storytelling and charming Victorian-style Toy Theatre Figures along with seasonal music. These charming holiday tales - in addition to holiday punch and cookies - are sure to put you in the Christmas spirit! Performances are offered Friday @7:30, Saturday @4 & Sunday @2. Tickets are $24 and may be purchased online at www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door (check & cash only) a half-hour prior to each performance, based on availability. The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) continues its 2014-2015 mainstage season with one of William Shakespeare's late masterpieces,The Tempest. STC Affiliated Artist Ethan McSweeny, following his imaginative production of A Midsummer Night's Dream two seasons ago, applies his flair for visual panache to The Tempest, in which sprites, goddesses and fools hold court. As the walls of the set came down one by one, the walls that the family built around themselves and their hearts also came down. Sometimes it takes heartbreak to make families glue themselves back together. It was wonderful to see that take place in this script. I hope to see other works from Woods, I have a feeling he has a lot of lines left in him. (more...)
