One of fastest-growing theater companies in the Valley is kicking off a new Cabaret Series featuring multi-award winning vocalist HECTOR CORIS's new solo show Our Own Kind of Universe. The show will be musical directed by Curtis Moeller with a special appearance by Marina Blue Jarrette. The one-night-only performance will take place on Monday, April 6th at 7:30PM at Tempe Center for the Arts (Studio Theatre), 700 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85281. Tickets are $20. Florida Studio Theatre will be hosting the Spring Ovation Luncheon this April 1 at 11:30am in the Court Cabaret. The event will feature an opening reception followed by lunch in the Court Cabaret of the Hegner Theatre Wing. The luncheon will include FST entertainment and the presentation of FST's highest honor, "The Jon Spelman Award" will be given to this year's recipient, Betty and Dick Hegner. An invitation only event, the Court Cabaret will be filled with honored guests and supporters of the theatre. (more...)

A Modish Ripoff of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing to open the 2015/2016 Geffen Playhouse season in the Gil Cates Theater. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Emmy Award nominated writer Rolin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Boardwalk Empire) with songs by Grammy Award winner Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong and staged by Jackson Gay. Shakespeare's Globe and Sonia Friedman Productions are delighted to announce the West End transfer of Claire van Kampen's critically-acclaimed new play Farinelli and the King, directed by John Dove, designed by Jonathan Fensom and starring Mark Rylance (Wolf Hall, Jerusalem, Richard III, Twelfth Night), as King Philippe V of Spain. Sam Crane will once again play the acting role of Farinelli, while the singing role will be reprised by opera star, Iestyn Davies and shared withRupert Enticknap. The rest of the cast will also transfer with Huss Garbiya playing Doctor Jose Cervi, Melody Grove playing Isabella Farnese, Colin Hurley as Metastasio and Edward Peel as De la Cuadra. (more...)

Our Productions Theatre Co. is anything but ordinary. Neither is the first musical of their 2015 Inaugural Season, Ordinary Days. The regional premiere of the acclaimed new production, is written by Adam Gwon, a composer and lyricist named one of '50 to Watch' by The Dramatist magazine, and winner of the 2008 Fred Ebb award for excellence in musical theater songwriting. Gwon's musical Ordinary Days recently enjoyed a sold-out run at the Finborough Theatre in London, after making its world premiere at Pennsylvania Centre Stage and appearing in the 2008 NAMT Festival of New Musicals and the 2008 ASCAP/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop. The multiple award-winning Echo Theater Company, named "Best Bet for Ballsy Original Plays" by the LA Weekly, continues its 2015 season with two Los Angeles premieres scheduled to run in repertory. Row After Row by Jessica Dickey (The Amish Project) opens on April 25 at 5 p.m., with A Small Fire by Obie Award-winner Adam Bock (The Drunken City, The Receptionist) opening that same evening at 8 p.m. The two plays will continue to run in tandem every weekend through May 31 at the Echo's home in Atwater Village Theatre.
