Metropolitan Opera’s General Manager Peter Gelb has spoken with several artists via a Zoom series, and revealed many future productions the company will take on.

The Metropolitan Opera has revealed that its operating revenue dropped by $25 million to $120 million in the fiscal year ending July 31. This is due to the company's shortened season caused by COVID-19. 

The Metropolitan Opera announced today that Marcia Lynn Sells has been named the company's first Chief Diversity Officer. Ms. Sells comes to the Met from Harvard Law School, where, as Dean of Students since 2015, she has led her team in the creation and implementation of a wide range of diversity programs.

Award-winning conductor Riccardo Muti, the music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is supporting the musicians of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. In his statement on Jan. 10, Maestro Muti wrote:

The unprecedented virtual gathering of Met Opera's principal artists, ensemble, and orchestra, billed as At-Home Gala, was streamed live around the world in 162 countries on 25 April 2020, viewed by more than 750,000 global audience members.
