Adelaide Festival Centre will welcome back audiences to the new Her Majesty's Theatre tonight for the first large-scale show in a major Australian arts venue.

State Theatre Company South Australia will make a grand return to the stage in September with Gaslight, the first major production to premiere at the newly refurbished Her Majesty's Theatre.

Studio Tenn's weekly talk show, 'Studio Tenn Talks: Theater Conversations with Patrick Cassidy' has released its July - August lineup, featuring nationally acclaimed performing artists. Jason Alexander, the Tony and Grammy Award winner and Emmy nominee best known for playing George Costanza in 'Seinfeld,' will be one of the featured guests.

BRANDEN & JAMES are bringing a soulful new sound to fans with the long-awaited release of their debut album, Chasing Dreams. With the special fundraising performance of Mark Farrelly's The Silence of Snow: The Life of Patrick Hamilton now sold out at Greenwich Theatre on 21 February, the venue have announced an extra performance on 20 February - but with the studio capacity strictly limited they are already forecasting a second sell-out.

Harry Houdini wrote Sir Arthur Conan Doyle a heartfelt plea to recommend a medium 'you know to be genuine.' His mother had just died and he wanted proof she had not completely vanished. The friends investigated mediums in the U.K., France and the U.S., where Scientific American was to pronounce the medium Margery genuine. They witnessed Eva C's ecotoplasm and, in Atlantic City, Lady Doyle's inspired communication.

The Ottawa Little Theatre's production of Patrick Hamilton's psychological thriller, Gaslight, takes the audience back to nineteenth century England and into the home of Bella (Heather Archibald) and her husband, Jack Manningham (J.T. Morris). Bella seems to be slowly going out of her mind, just like her mother did, as evidenced by her hiding of random household objects for no apparent reason, as well as her lapses in memory. Jack taunts Bella cruelly, rewarding her for being good with the promise of a night out at the theatre, before almost instantly rescinding the gift because she has misplaced a grocery receipt. Jack further threatens to place Bella in a lunatic asylum if her behaviour doesn't improve. When Jack goes out, a detective named Rough (Geoff Gruson) comes to the house, seeking Bella. He can see that Bella is distraught and, because of his caring demeanour, Bella confides her worst fear to him - she is going out of her mind. She tells Rough that, aside from hiding insignificant household items, she also hears noises when she is alone in the house and has noticed other odd things, like the gas lights dimming downstairs, as if someone is on the top level of the house, even though that floor is unused and off-limits. Rough gives Bella the house's macabre history, providing her with another, more horrifying, explanation for these events. Together, they set out to find the truth.

Having been a Chiswick resident myself for over 15 years, I'm aware of the remarkable history of artists and theatre practitioners who have lived and worked in the area. Not only have a raft of famous actors chosen Chiswick as their home (Colin Firth, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Briers to name a few), but also the playwrights who have lived there include some of the great names in British theatre a?' John Osbourne, Harold Pinter, Arthur Pinero and Patrick Hamilton, amongst others.

Watford Palace Theatre presents Patrick Hamilton's classic psychological thriller, Gaslight. Richard Beecham directs Hannah Hutch (Nancy), Sandra James-Young (Elizabeth), Jasmine Jones (Jack Manningham), Tricia Kelly (Inspector Rough) and Sally Tatum (Bella Manningham). The production opens on 7 October with previews from 2 October and runs until 26 October.

In the light of Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement, the term 'gaslighting' has become part of the discourse around abusive behaviour. Many may not realise that it originates from Patrick Hamilton's thriller Gaslight, written in 1938, in which - for reasons later discovered - the dastardly Mr Manningham tries to trick his wife Bella into thinking she is losing her mind. It's part of a pattern of what we would now recognise as coercive control.
