The Broadway Experience Wraps Seventh Summer Season

The Broadway Experience returned for a seventh summer program at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center from July 28th - August 10th. With over 20 professional educators from the Broadway community, TBE offered over 75 classes, workshops, lectures, a performance based second week and invited Jonathan Groff as guest speaker. Jonathan spoke about his life on and off the stage, and took the time to answer questions and offer advice and inspiration. He was even kind enough to give an impromptu performance from Disney's recent hit film, Frozen. (more...)

Cherry Lane to Open 90th Season with Lisa Ramirez's TO THE BONE, Running 9/9-10/4

The legendary Cherry Lane Theatre - which this year will celebrate its 90th anniversary as one of the nation's most revered institutions for its commitment to producing new works for the stage - will begin its 90th season with the world-premiere of Lisa Ramirez's play TO THE BONE directed by Lisa Peterson, set to commence previews September 9 prior to an official opening night September 17 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Greenwich Village), it has been announced by Angelina Fiordellisi, the company's Founding Artistic Director. The Kitchen Presents THE REHEARSAL, 6/25-8/1

From June 25 to August 1, The Kitchen will present The Rehearsal, a group exhibition in which Courtesy the Artists, Discoteca Flaming Star and Georgia Sagri revisit an unreleased film by blacklisted, American film maker Jules Dassin. Filmed 40 years ago in the building that is now The Kitchen, Dassin's film, also tilted The Rehearsal, is a cinematic indictment of the Greek military junta (1967-74) and features Dassin, his wife, Greek actress Melina Mercouri, along with Laurence Olivier, Olympia Dukakis, Arthur Miller and Lillian Hellman, among others. For this exhibition, the artists will engage the themes, resonances and Brechtian structures of Dassin's work placing them in conversation with recent narratives of collective action for autonomy on the global stage. The Boston Theater Critics' Association hosted the 32nd anniversary presentation of the Elliot Norton Awards last night at the Wheelock Family Theatre. Barely before people were in their seats, the tap dancing ensemble of Stoneham Theatre's THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, led by Ephie Aardema, shuffled, ball changed, and kicked off the festivities. An enthusiastic Joyce Kulhawik, President of the BTCA, took the podium as Master of Ceremonies to introduce a parade of fellow critics and past winners as presenters, as well as two more nominated musical performances later in the program.
