Berkeley Repertory Theatre presents award-winning British actress Samantha Barks starring in the world premiere of AMELIE, A NEW MUSICAL directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon (WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?). Barks, who is best known for her stand-out performance as Eponine in the film adaptation of LES MISERABLES, portrays the inquisitive and charmingly shy Amélie. TUCK EVERLASTING, the new musical based on Natalie Babbitt's beloved best-selling novel of the same name, will play Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street) this spring with opening night set for Sunday, April 17, 2016. The show will begin previews Wednesday, March 23, 2016 (first preview was previously announced for March 19). The musical, which debuted earlier this year in a record-breaking engagement at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre, features a book by Tony Award® nominee Claudia Shear (Dirty Blonde), music by Chris Miller (The Burnt Part Boys), lyrics by Nathan Tysen (The Burnt Part Boys), and direction and choreography by Tony Award® winner Casey Nicholaw (Something Rotten!, Aladdin, The Book of Mormon). TUCK EVERLASTING is produced by Grove Entertainment, Arlene Scanlan & Michael Jackowitz, Howard & Janet Kagan, and Barry Brown. Tony winner Karen Olivo, who in 2013 decided to leave her New York City life behind for a new start in Wisconsin, is set to make her directorial debut with University of Wisconsin-Madison's University Theatre production of Fugitive Songs. The Exchange today announced the artists and companies who will participate in its 2015 Orchard Project summer residency program. Twenty-two artists and ensembles (listed below) were selected from a competitive field of nearly 500 applicants to develop their big, new ideas at the Orchard Project. This will be the eighth summer - and the first summer in Saratoga Springs, NY - for the Orchard Project, a laboratory program where theatre artists and companies come to innovate, develop, and refine new shows. Past productions developed at the Orchard Project have gone on to be performed around the globe for over 500,000 people and to win awards from TONYs to Obies to Oliviers. (more...)
