Studio 42 to Host 3rd Annual Unproducible Smackdown, 5/3

On May 3rd, Studio 42 will present the Unproducible works of Meghan Deans - winner of the '13 Unproducible Smackdown (Ashore), Eric Dufault (Year of the Rooster), Brett Epstein - Fan Slam winner (I Loved Sam Stone), Leah Nanako Winkler (Death for Sydney Black), and Lauren Yee (Ching Chong Chinaman). Direction by Liz Carlson (The Playwrights Realm's Lottie in the Late Afternoon), Matt Dickson (INTAR's The Lowest Form of Writing), John Giampietro (EST's Year of the Rooster), and Jesse Jou (Rising Circle Theater Collectives's Say You Heard My Echo). The plays of the Smackdown are produced by Alyssa Anderson, Ying Le, Greg Nobile, Meghan Pressman, and Lico Whitfield. (more...)

F*It Club, the New York Innovative Award-winning film and theatre company, continues its annual series of short, commissioned world-premiere plays at the Medicine Show Theatre in Manhattan with The Spring Fling: The Morning After, six new plays by Hilary Bettis (American Girls), Nick Jones (The Coward, Trevor), Krista Knight (Clementine and the Cyber Ducks), Janine Nabers (Annie Bosh is Missing), Heidi Schreck (There Are No More Big Secrets, Creature), and Joe Tracz (Up North) and directed by Oliver Butler (Blood Play), Matt Dickson (The Man-Made Rock), Mike Donahue (Grace, or the Art of Climbing), Portia Krieger (The Netflix Plays), Stella Powell-Jones (Williamstown Theatre Festival Directing Assistant), and Pirronne Yousefzadeh (Ten, The Tenant). Performances will be Thursday, April 4th through Sunday, April 14th with Thursday through Saturday night performances at 8pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2p. (more...)

THE MAN-MADE ROCK, a dramatic comedy, which will run through December 16 at the 4th Street Theatre, is set in Texas and written by Justin Adams. Featuring direction from Matt Dickson (who just finished a run in Lincoln Center's War Horse and also appeared in all three parts of The Coast of Utopia), the cast will feature Broadway veterans Martin LaPlatney (the original Broadway cast of Amadeus, Roundabout's recent The Road to Mecca) and Stephen Bradbury (Dividing the Estate, the original cast of A Few Good Men on Broadway) alongside Blake DeLong, David Marantz (One Life to Live, As The World Turns) and Jon Krupp. Get a first look at the production in the photos below! The festival will take place June 29-July 29 on 5 stages in the East Village and Brooklyn and outdoor sites throughout lower Manhattan. New York City-based theater collective Special Sauce Company presents its latest project, an ambitious four-week festival of new work conceptualized as ‘Flash Plays', to take place over the Spring season. The festival, comprised of over three dozen pieces, are all characterized as site-specific, performed in public locations, and no more than five minutes in length. Audiences will be asked to optionally donate with 100% of proceeds going towards Shelterbox, a disaster relief organization currently focusing its efforts on assisting Japan. (more...)
