Proclaimed by the City of Los Angeles as "LA's Only Legal Orchestra," the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic was founded by attorney/conductor Gary S. Greene.  The orchestra held its first rehearsal on January 19, 2009 with 30 legal musicians_and performed its debut concert on January 30, 2009. Since then, the orchestra has grown to 75 members and performed more than 40 concerts, raising more than tens of thousands of dollars to benefit those who cannot afford legal services and for other charitable purposes. Jazz at Lincoln Center's 2016 Popular Song series at the Appel Room ended this year's agenda on June 8 with host Michael Feinstein's appreciation of the interconnection between swing and popular song, a subject about which he's clearly enthusiastic. Each musical era, he suggests, is previewed by a song marking change: “Alexander's Ragtime Band” ushered in ragtime, “Sing, Sing Sing,” prefaced swing, “Rock Around the Clock” heralded rock n' roll. With the able assistance of Musical Director Tedd Firth (also on piano), Firth's Big Band, and special guest vocalists Allyson Briggs, Jeremy Jordan, and Catherine Ross, Feinstein and Co. delivered a lively evening of familiar and eclectic material. Electric Youth (EY), the international touring ensemble of singer-dancers trained at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA), will perform at THE BLACK BOX in downtown Franklin on Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. The event is a Bon Voyage Concert for Electric Youth, coming just days before the ensemble departs on June 23rd for a three-week concert tour of Austria and Italy. The group's 13th European tour will include a return Fourth of July show at Aviano Air Force Base to entertain U.S. Troops and families stationed abroad. (more...)

Founder-Conductor Gary S. Greene, Esq. will lead the Los Angeles Lawyers Philharmonic and its chorus, Legal Voices, dubbed "LA's Only Legal Orchestra & Chorus," in their 7th Annual Concert Extraordinaire on Saturday evening, June 18 at Disney Hall (111 S. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles 90012). The Sherman Brothers' memorable Disney music and works by composers Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein will highlight the evening, with Legendary Songwriter Richard M. Sherman as a special guest. Louis Prima and Keely Smith shared a larger-than-life marriage and a groundbreaking Las Vegas act featuring unforgettable songs like "That Ol' Black Magic," "Pennies from Heaven," and "Embraceable You." These songs and many others are featured in the production which has grown from a local Los Angeles-created hit at Sacred Fools Theater Company to a national musical phenomenon. After earlier award-winning and extended productions in Los Angeles and more recent acclaim in Chicago, these outsized personalities and talents have returned to the city in which the show was born. The current production is directed by Taylor Hackford, who also wrote the show with Vanessa Clair Stewart and Jake Broder, and is presented by Hershey Felder (a musical talent in his own right). The Milton Berle Room heard the sounds of past Friars, Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan, and Louis Prima last night as Danny Bacher brought his show Swing That Music to the club.  BroadwayWorld was there for the fun.  The club has been home to many of the music world's past legends and Danny Bacher's music added to that storied tradition.
