Performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, violinist and Rice University Shepherd School of Music alumna Luke Hsu won the 41st annual Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition Saturday, June 4, at Rice University's Stude Concert Hall. Hsu's first place win earned her a gold medal, a $25,000 prize and a solo performance at Jones Hall with the Houston Symphony at the final concert of Day of Music at 7:30 p.m. July 9. (more...)

Contestants will battle for the top prize and the opportunity to perform on the stage of Jones Hall with the Houston Symphony in an orchestra-run multi-instrument competition. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, nerds, a new musical comedy about the rise and rivalry of tech trailblazers Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, will postpone its Broadway run. A national tour of the production is in the works. The show had just finalized and announced its cast in late February, at the start of rehearsals. nerds was scheduled to begin previews on April 1 and open on April 21 at the Longacre Theatre.
