The Barn Theatre in Cirencester and the Arcola Theatre in London have today announced that Rachel Redford (The Jungle, Gap Year), will star as Masha in the world premiere of Cat Goscovitch’s new one woman play, A Russian Doll.

Now or Never is a song cycle written by associate artist Matthew Harvey, which follows 7 people as they each take a defiant act of positivity in their last week on Earth.

Adapting classic works for the modern day is a double-edged sword. The usual risk is a clash between a hip makeover and situations that stay too rooted to their original framework. Not in Henry Filloux-Bennett’s take on Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. He reframes beauty and popularity for a technology-centric age where our digital lives have essentially taken over.

J.M. Barrie’s 1911 novel about the boy who never grew up is often staged around this time of year. However, a show about a rabble of “lost boys” would prove challenging to produce in the current circumstances. The Barn Theatre has found a way around this.
