BWW Reviews: SMT's MAN OF LA MANCHA Is Just Too Nice

In order to put up the highly complex musical of "Man of La Mancha" you need more than the voices to fill the main roles. You need an ensemble who understands the text and the tone of the situation as well as a pacing to keep this intricate show moving along. Alas, that is what was missing from Seattle Musical Theatre's current production and is what hampers their show. (more...)

Parks Concert Series Continues with Karen Mason & William Michals, 8/13

The 7th Season of The Parks Concert Series, (formerly The Concerts for City Greens), a free outdoor concert series, continues on Wednesday, August 13th at 6:30 pm (Rain date: Thursday, August 14th at 6:30pm.) at Tudor City Greens, and will feature professional performers from Broadway and the New York City cabaret, jazz, classical and opera scene. Seattle Musical Theatre kicks off its 2014-2015 season with Tony Award winning classic MAN OF LA MANCHA, book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion, and music by Mitch Leigh. Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Score and Best Musical, MAN OF LA MANCHA follows the eccentric Don Quixote, his faithful manservant Sancho, and the tough, but beautiful Aldonza in a mythic and spiritual quest for the impossible dream. (2014 Un-Original Cast Album) which is produced by Grammy Award winner Hugh Fordin, and available in stores and online July 22nd. To kick-off the CD release, Barnes & Noble (150 East 86 Street) will host an in-store appearance and performance from 4pm - 6pm. This CD marks Forbidden Broadway's 12th cast recording with DRG Records. Produced by Hugh Fordin, the release date is soon to be announced. This CD marks Forbidden Broadway's 12th cast recording with DRG Records. Featured on the original cast recording are cast members Carter Calvert, Scott Richard Foster, Mia Gentile and Marcus Stevens, with David Caldwell on piano. BWW Reviews: STAGEright's A NEW BRAIN Feels Undercooked

William Finn's shows are not easy to produce. Maybe that's why (with the exception of Spelling Bee) they're not done as often as they deserve. And his largely autobiographical "A New Brain" is no exception with its emotional storyline and rich score not to mention some odd staging elements it requires. So if you're going to produce it you'd better have all your ducks in a row. Well all of the ducks are there for the current production from STAGEright now performing at the Cornish Playhouse Black Box but some of them didn't quite stay in that row. (more...)
