by Alan Portner - Jun 5, 2017

Now running at the City Theater of Independence is the 2013 Tony winning comedy 'Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike' by Christopher Durang. Based loosely on charcters and the works of Anton Checkhov, you don't have to be familiar with the Russian writer to get all the jokes. Well, you might need to know a little bit to get all the in-jokes, but the New York critics gave this show a resounding seal of approval. (more...)

Donna McKechnie Brings Cabaret Show to Martinis Above FourthDonna McKechnie Brings Cabaret Show to Martinis Above Fourth
by BWW News Desk - May 19, 2017

Tony Award winner, Donna McKechnie's new show, Same Place: Another Time, is a musical deja vu celebrating the scintillating 70's in New York City - the heyday of Studio 54. The journey she takes puts a personal spin on the "ingenue" coming to New York, finding love and success, losing her innocence along the way, perhaps, but never her spirit. It is beautifully illuminated by the music of Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Marvin Hamlisch, Peter Allen, Jim Croce and Leroy Anderson. (more...)

GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI for May 19, 2017GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI for May 19, 2017
by Jeffrey Ellis - May 19, 2017

GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI! Down in the right-hand corner of my computer screen, it tells me that its Friday, May 19 - which means that Memorial Day Weekend is just a week away! - how in the world did we make it from New Year's Day to Memorial Day in what seems to me to be like 15 minutes? And that, of course, has me wondering what shows we'll be seeing during the next holiday season which, in turn, prompts me to ask the musical question: What's your favorite Christmas or holiday-themed stage offering? (more...)
