The Hopkins Center for the Arts (the Hop) today announced an updated lineup of winter and spring arts experiences, from music concerts by Brentano String Quartet, Anaïs Mitchell and Amir ElSaffar; an immersive audio-visual installation by Ash Fure and Adam Fure and theatrical works by SITI Company, Roger Guenveur Smith and george emilio sanchez.
Washington National Opera Presents Marian Anderson Vocal Award 2021 Recipient, Frederick Ballentine

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertoire with outstanding promise for a significant career. Earlier this year, Washington National Opera (WNO) named tenor Frederick Ballentine as the 2021 recipient and will present him in concert on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.

Sometimes advertising and catch phrases become outdated and are not reflective of the current environment. Not so with “The Jazz Corner Of The World”. Birdland is still the rightful possessor of that Charlie Parker quote, and one need have only been in the audience Saturday night to hear Jazz great Alan Broadbent and his trio to understand the legitimacy of that nickname.
