The public is invited to an Open House and Preview Event showcasing the Fabulous Fox Theatre's 2015-2016 U.S. Bank Broadway Series on Sunday, May 31 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Fox Theatre, 527 N. Grand Blvd. Visitors will be treated to live previews of MATILDA THE MUSICAL and BEAUTIFUL-THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL along with video previews from the other season shows. (more...)

Beautiful City Theatre, in collaboration with Virtu'O, produces the contemporary rock musical NEXT TO NORMAL opening May 15, 2015 at Centaur Theatre (453 rue St. Francois-Xavier) in Montreal, Quebec. The multiple Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will run for two weekends, from May 15 - 17, and May 21 - 23, 2015. Today in 2009, Next to Normal opened at the Booth Theatre, where it ran for 733 performances. Next to Normal is a rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. Its story concerns a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. The musical also addresses such issues as grieving a loss, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life. It was nominated for eleven 2009 Tony Awards and won three, Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Alice Ripley. It also won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming just the eighth musical in history to receive the honor. (more...)

The American Theatre Wing just recognized the recipients of the 2015 Jonathan Larson Grants: writing team Tim Rosser (composer) & Charlie Sohne (composer) receiving $10,000,Sam Willmott (composer/lyricist) receiving $10,000 and a week-long residency at the Running Deer Musical Theatre Lab, and Max Vernon (composer/lyricist) receiving $10,000. This year's recipients were selected by an expert panel consisting of Amanda Green (Hands on a Hardbody), Steven Lutvak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), and Ted Chapin (President and Executive Director of Rodgers & Hammerstein). The prestigious grants totaling $30,000 were presented last night, March 23, 2015 at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space. BroadwayWorld brings you photos from inside the special event below!
