We are happy to announce additional free online programs, rescheduled dates for our valued summer Shakespeare classes, and a fundraising campaign, all part of The Old Globe's ongoing commitment to serve the public good by providing programs that make theatre matter to more people.

Williamstown Theatre Festival (Mandy Greenfield, Artistic Director) has announced that Sanaz Toossi is the 2020 L. Arnold Weissberger New Play Award recipient for her play English. Sanaz receives the $10,000 award as well as the $10,000 Jay Harris Commission to write a new play.

Alberta Theatre Projects examines the issue of consent head-on, tackling the politics of race, gender, and privilege on a contemporary university campus in the award-winning Actually by Anna Ziegler. With a laser-focus on only two characters, and their point of view on the same situation, Actually is destined to trigger discussion after audiences experience the piece at the Martha Cohen Theatre, February 26 - March 14, 2020.

Theater J, located in Washington, DC's Jewish Community Center focuses its work on celebrating and bringing light to the Jewish culture and its people. Angry irony does not usually get used to describe the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein. But there isn't always a bright golden haze on the meadow. 'You've got to be taught to be afraid/of people whose eyes are oddly made/and people whose skin is a different shade,' came from his pen as did, 'You've got to be taught before it's too late/before you are six or seven or eight. . . .' The character who sings these words in South Pacific is furious because he's a white man in love with an Asian woman, and in the late 1940s, he's surrounded by people who'd find her eyes to be oddly made. Adam Turner, the eponymous character in Anna Ziegler's Boy being taught what to be before it's 'too late,' also has the double whammy of being the person who doesn't fit society's idea of how to be. The situation jumps out of Hammerstein's league into Orwell's because it's doubleplusungood. But that word's off the table as applied to Keegan Theatre's fine production of the 90 minute Boy; directed with skill and compassion by Susan Marie Rhea.

Now, Artistic Director Mandy Greenfield has announced the complete 2020 summer season for Williamstown Theatre Festival, which includes four world premiere plays, a world premiere musical, and more.

Five-time Tony Award-winner, Audra McDonald, will star opposite Bobby Cannavale in a revival of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire at Williamstown Theatre Festival.

The Keegan Theatre has announced two moderated post-show discussions and audience talkbacks on the subject of gender identity after the theatre's mainstage production of Anna Ziegler's play BOY and a staged reading of Buzz Mauro and Norman Allen's new musical ALIX IN WONDERLAND: A GENDER JOURNEY DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE.
