Turtle Shell Productions presents the world premier of Martin M. Zuckerman's To Walk in Darkness, adapted from Henry James stories. Directed by Aleksey Burago. Previews Begin November 28, 2008, with an official opening, December 5, 2008 at THE SHELL Theater.
 
John W. Cooper, Artistic Director of Turtle Shell Productions, has announced the world premiere of TO WALK IN DARKNESS, two one-act plays, THE MARRIAGES and BELTRAFFIO, adapted from Henry James stories by Martin M. Zuckerman on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 8PM at the Turtle Shell Theater, 300 West 43rd St (4th floor). The official opening will be on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 8PM.
 
Dark and destructive acts seal the fates of the protagonists of each play. In THE MARRIAGES, mourning the loss of their mother, Adela and Godfrey have opposing reactions to the prospect of their father remarrying. Adela opposes the intrusion of an obnoxious outsider. Godfrey, on the other hand, hopes his father's fiance will help him break the news of his own secret marriage. Adela goes to extraordinary lengths to disrupt her father's plans and risks her family's love.
 
BELTRAFFIO is set at the home of the world-renowned British author, Mark Ambient. A young American writer, drawn into the conflict between Mark and his wife, Beatrice, over the upbringing of their precocious seven-year-old son. Mark is a leading proponent of the aesthetic movement; Beatrice, a celebrated actress, has reverted to her former religious fanaticism. Realizing that Mark's philosophy will eventually win the child over, Beatrice takes drastic measures to prevent this.
 
Martin M. Zuckerman was a mathematics professor at City College. He has adapted nine works of Henry James, Edith Wharton, Katherine Mansfield, and John Dos Passos. His play, THE ASPERN PAPERS, was produced by Turtle Shell Productions. Other plays have been produced at the Samuel French Festival, the Strawberry Festival, the Fifteen-Minute Festival (Belfast, ME), the Women of Color Festival, and the American Theatre of Harlem.
 
John W. Cooper (producer/artistic director) was nominated for the Irene Ryan National Award and was awarded Best Actor in the European Tournament of Plays. He is the producer, artistic director and founder of Turtle Shell Productions, which has produced over one hundred plays, including Five by Tenn, Blues for Mister Charlie, PUCK'd, Ourselves Alone and The 8-Minute Madness Playwright Festival.
 
The cast of TO WALK IN DARKNESS features Matthew Conlon, Alexander Harvey, Carol Lambert, Bristol Pomeroy, Emma O'Donnell and Katharine Abbruzzese.
 
Production Manager is Paula J Riley. Set Design is by Kyle Dixon, Sound Designer is David Lawson, Lighting is by Dan Ozminkowski and Costume Designer is A. Christina Giannini.
