The Nature Theater of Oklahoma' Romeo & Juliet make its New York premiere on December 17 at The Kitchen.  Just of an international tour earlier in 2009, Romeo and Juliet will play a limited engagement at The Kitchen through January 16, 2010.

The classic story has been re-imagined by Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska who both conceived and direct the production.  Their Romeo and Juliet is a memory play, that compiles bits of memories from Nature Theater company members of Shakespeare's work.

"With some rather surprising twists and turns, given that no one seems to remember the exact plot, the myriad versions of the story compound in an array of competing scenarios. The participants try to invent themselves out of their own narrative blind alleys. Where memory fails, a kind of necessary creativity steps in to fill the void. What we are left with is a highly personal and original series of the famous story, infused with emotion and thoughts about love, need and the complex nature of self-sacrifice."

The cast includes Anne Gridley and Robert M. Johanson with Elisabeth Conner and features design by Peter Nigrini.

Performances run December 17-19; December 22-23; January 6-9, 2010; and January 13-16, 2010. For tickets, priced $20, visit www.thekitchen.org. The Kitchen is located at 512 West 19th Street in Manhattan.
