With snow on the ground and preview performances packing the house, the Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre (BNW) is ready for the opening of the Holiday 2014 comedy revue, "Twerking Around the Christmas Tree." All performances are at the Brave New Workshop Theatre main stage at 824 Hennepin Avenue, Downtown Minneapolis. Tickets for "Twerking Around the Christmas Tree" are on sale now at (612) 332-6620 or http://theatre.bravenewworkshop.com/ "Twerking Around the Christmas Tree" runs through January 31, 2015.

"Twerking Around the Christmas Tree" prides itself on being a voice of (hilarious) reason during the holidays. "While other holiday shows present a candy-coated, Norman Rockwell version of what we've been told the season should be, the BNW shows you the holidays in all their beautifully, horribly, hilariously painfully flawed reality," says director Katy McEwen. "It's Christmas without Photoshop - blemishes and all."

Themes for the sketches and songs include:

  • A "White Christmas" meaning something very different in Minnesota
  • The advisability of a drum solo as a gift for a newborn baby
  • Christmas wishes, both fulfilled and unfulfilled

"Twerking around the Christmas Tree" features BNW cast members Lauren Anderson, Bobby Gardner, Andy Hilbrands, and Melanie Wehrmacher. The show is directed by Katy McEwen, with direction assistance by Caleb McEwen and Heather Meyer. Heather Meyer, Tom Reed, and Taj Ruler provide additional writing. Peter Guertin returns as music director, and Matthew Vichlach will provide technical direction.
