Los Angeles Performance Practice (L.A.P.P.) and Bootleg Theater partner to host Performance Exchange, a series of curated performances highlighting L.A. productions to be presented during the 2016 Western Arts Alliance (WAA) Conference.

Featuring preview performances of L.A.P.P.'s upcoming presentation of playwright Nassim Soleimanpour's slyly inventive White Rabbit Red Rabbit, as well as the return of BIG SHOT, a dance-theater piece by Theatre Movement Bazaar, and new music from wild Up, the Performance Exchange offers conference-goers and audiences alike an encounter with new works that experiment with the boundaries of their forms.

Performances are held August 29-September 3, 2016 at the Bootleg Theater,
2220 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90057. Three-show passes are $45, and single tickets are $20-25, available online at www.artful.ly/los-angeles-performance-practice. For performance schedule and details, visit losangelesperformancepractice.org/waa.

"This Performance Exchange is a celebration of innovative work that is being produced for stages in Los Angeles, now. Audiences, WAA conference participants and other theater professionals can come together to encounter the ideas, methods and visions of L.A. artists." says L.A.P.P. Founder Miranda Wright. "It's a small offering, as we prepare to announce our 4th annual Live Arts Exchange (LAX) Festival which kicks off later in September."

ABOUT THE WORKS:

WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT :: Nassim Soleimanpour

Described by Entertainment Weekly as "a dazzling, transcendent piece of alive-and-kicking avant-garde theater," White Rabbit Red Rabbit is Nassim Soleimanpour's play for one actor-an actor who has never seen the script. Encountering Soleimanpour's words for the first time, a new performer takes the stage each night to helm a genuinely experimental work, and to bring us face to face with a writer unable to transport himself beyond his nation's borders. The work was created while Soleimanpour was unable to obtain a passport for travel outside his homeland, the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A line-up of celebrated Los Angeles actors dive in, unrehearsed. For the Performance Exchange, our intrepid line-up includes Lauren Weedman ("Looking," "The Daily Show"), Jessica Hanna (Producing/Managing Director, Bootleg Theater), Diane Rodriguez (Associate Artistic Director, Center Theatre Group), and Jesse Saler (Founding Member, Poor Dog Group). This four-performance preview sets the stage for a full run as part of this fall's Live Arts Exchange Festival, September 21 to October 2.

WEST :: wild Up

wild Up, the new music collective led by Christopher Rountree, performs WEST, a concert of contemporary, experimental interpretations of iconic music from the cinema and art of Los Angeles. With riffs on Ennio Morricone, The Beach Boys and much more, the program offers a study in West Coast experimentalism, pulse music, noise, punk rock and tumbleweeds. Featured performers include Jodie Landau, Archie Carey, and Brian Walsh, under the direction of founder and artistic director Christopher Rountree.

BIG SHOT A.K.A. THIS IS NOT THE GODFATHER :: Theatre Movement Bazaar

Physical theatre company Theatre Movement Bazaar's Big Shot: a.k.a This is Not The Godfather is a vaudevillian theatrical collage inspired by The Godfather, both its literary and cinematic versions. Big Shot investigates family dynamics, power, criminal behavior and being Italian-American through stylized theatrics, dynamic movement, song, dance and pasta. The production returns to the Bootleg Theater, following an international tour with stops in Edinburgh and Shanghai.
