Actress/singer Alison Janes of the TV series "One Day," has been cast in the lead role of Christine in Vox Lumiere's critically acclaimed musical play "The Phantom of the Opera," set to open in Los Angeles this fall.

"Portraying Christine in 'the Phantom of the Opera' is truly an exciting and challenging role," said Janes, who will play opposite Chase Matthews ("Workaholics") who will portray the Phantom, disfigured composer who is out for revenge against those who mistreated him.

"Alison has a fabulous voice and working with her in this new production will be real treat not only for me and the cast, but for the entire audience," Matthews said.

Known for her roles in the TV series "One Day," "Morbid Minutes," and the upcoming film "Louder Than Words," Janes is bringing her musical talents to the forefront as she portrays the young operatic ingénue who becomes the object of affection of an opera house's so-called Phantom.

The show, executive produced by Kevin Saunders Hayes, will open on Sept. 19 at Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Spring St. in Downtown Los Angeles and run through Dec. 13.

The production, based upon the 1925 film classic starring Lon Chaney, "The Phantom of the Opera" will feature all new music, multimedia images and sounds that Vox Lumiere is known for.

A New Hampshire native, Janes is known for her work in such films as "The Deep End," "Matters of the Heart" and others, as well as such stage productions as last October's "Marilyn... Madness & Me," where she received rave reviews for her portrayal as Marilyn Monroe. Her other work includes "It's a Wonderful Life," "Sweeney Todd," "Pirates of Penzance," and many others.

Thanks to her gifted operatic voice, Janes has performed here and around the world with opera companies such as Vox Lumiere, Utah Opera and others. "Music is such a powerful means of communication, and having the opportunity to commune in that way with an audience has taught me so much about the human experience," she said.

A graduate of DePaul University, Janes found success on the Chicago stage rewarding, but her goal was to come to Hollywood and make her mark, and so far, so good. She has recently completed work on two films and is also busy in the recording studio working on new music.
