THE ELEPHANT MAN is based upon the true story of John Merrick, who though hideously deformed, reveals himself to be a man of remarkable intelligence and sensitivity.

Rescued from an existence as a side-show freak by the Victorian surgeon Frederick Treves, John Merrick becomes the toast of London society, patronized by lords,
ladies, clergymen and celebrities who admire his gentleness, deep faith and spirit and in the process, discover their own hidden flaws.

The play explores the nature of courage, heroism, morality, and what it means to be truly beautiful.
