On Monday, April 15, Sharon Washington (The Scottsboro Boys, Wild With Happy), Reg E. Cathey ("The Wire", Love's Labor's Lost), and Crystal Dickinson (Clybourne Park, The Call) will converge at Joe's Pub for a reading of the new play CONVERGENCE.
Written by Karen Chilton (Hazel Scott The Biography, "Half Nelson"), CONVERGENCE uses the relationship between a prominent psychiatrist and her schizophrenic patient to explore the dynamics of class and community. The play's rhythmic style uses jazz as a metaphor as the dialogue between the characters flows from melodious and harmonious to discordant and cacophonous.
Directed by Awoye Timpo (The Vanished), the reading also features Francois Battiste (The Winter's Tale, Detroit '67) and Lizan Mitchell (Having Our Say, HBO's "John Adams").
Jazz pianist Xavier Davis (Christian McBride's Grammy-award winning album "The Good Feeling") will be playing live.
