In 1991, after having performed as a jazz vocalist in the New York nightclub scene for about five years, Laurie Krauz was searching for a new musical director-and a new musical direction. She had cast a wide net until a friend recommended Daryl Kojak and Laurie scheduled a getting-to-know-you session. "I don't exactly recall the first song we worked on together but I felt as if I was being levitated off the floor when he played for me," Laurie remembers. "It was magic and it has remained magic for a 25 years."

Now Krauz and Kojak will display what Laurie calls "A collaboration for the ages" at the Metropolitan Room on May 13 at 7 pm in the ninth show of the critically acclaimed monthly series, New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits (Stephen Hanks, Producer; Fr. Jeffrey Hamblin, MD, Associate Producer). The Metropolitan Room is at 34 West 22nd Street and reservations can be made at http://metropolitanroom.com/event.cfm?id=220922&cart

While Krauz and Kojak have staged many Award-winning shows together over a quarter century, for this event they are presenting a "Greatest Hits Show" within a "Greatest Hits" show, performing their most successful numbers and songs that are favorites of their fans.

"Our goal with this show," Krauz says, "is to do what we did that first day in Daryl's studio--express ourselves together with every note, every lyric, every moment. We're enormously excited to celebrate this extraordinarily fulfilling collaboration with our audience. Really, we're just celebrating the kickoff to the next 25 years."

"When Krauz and Kojak jazz up the joint, they're the scat's meow." --New York Daily News

Named one of the top 500 jazz vocalists of all time in a 2007 book by jazz critic Scott Yanow, Bronx-born Laurie Krauz is a three-time MAC Award-winner and a two-time Bistro Award-winner. Her most recent highly acclaimed show is Tapestry REWOVEN, a jazzy interpretation of the iconic Carole King album Tapestry, which earned her and Daryl Kojak a 2009 Bistro Award. [See video.]

A multiple Bistro Award-winner, Daryl Kojak has worked on the New York music scene for more than 30 years as a pianist, producer, composer, songwriter, arranger and musical director. In addition to Laurie Krauz, he has performed live or in the recording studio with countless Broadway, film, concert, recording, and cabaret stars, including Kristen Chenoweth, Catherine Russell, Mark Nadler, Sandra Bernhard, Warren Vaché, and Jackie Hoffman.
