Mary Jo McConnell makes her NYC cabaret debut while celebrating a very special birthday in Captain MJ's Fantastic Journey: A Memoir With Song.

Mary Jo became "Captain MJ" while serving in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Her musical memoir reflects on her NYC Catholic upbringing, her decision to join the Army and the tug of war between nursing and a performing arts career. Under the direction of Celine Rosenthal (Tony nominated Producer, Leap of Faith/Seminar), with music direction by John Johnson (Chicago, the Musical), she explores the work of Stephen Sondheim, Maury Yeston, Rogers and Hammerstein, and Tysen & Miller (Tuck Everlasting). The evening will feature a special opening number written by two-time Backstage Bistro award winner, Tim DiPasqua and a medley about auditioning in NYC called Auditionland.

MJ is a veteran performer (pun intended) of such National Tours as: The Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, All Shook Up and Sister Act and an original cast member of the off-Broadway production of Menopause, the Musical.

All proceeds benefit The Musical Theatre Factory, a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to helping musical theatre artists develop and present new work in a collaborative atmosphere free from the pressures of critical or commercial success. www.mtf.nyc

Captain MJ's Fantastic Journey: A Memoir With Song will launch October 12, 2015 at 9:30 PM at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, 407 West 42nd Street, New York City.
