Variety reports exclusively that America's favorite macabre family THE ADDAMS FAMILY will be heading to the big screen, this time in an animated version courtesy of MGM.

According to the report, the studio is in final negotiations with Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun to produce an animated take on the endearing yet gooky family, based on the iconic cartoons of Charles Addams. 'Monster House's Pamela Pettler will pen the screenplay, while Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi will serve as executive producers.

The family first appeared in The New Yorker in 1938 and continued on as single panel cartoons created by Addams until his death in 1988. The characters have Gone through an array of incarnations including an ABC sitcom which aired for two seasons between 1964 and 1966, two Paramount live-action films and a Broadway musical featuring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuworth as love birds and household heads Morticia and Gomez.

Back in June, MGM and BermanBraun announced they had inked a first-look film deal as part of an overall agreement to develop content across broadcast and cable.
