In "Wilderness Princess" (published by CrossBooks), author Vicki Cook blends her love of early American history and enduring faith in God together in a heartwarming story of perseverance, restoration and the power of God's love.

"The book is meant to be uplifting and encouraging to women in all walks of life while giving glory to God," explains Cook.

Set in the Ohio wilderness that Cook knows and loves, "Wilderness Princess" introduces readers to Maggie Carter, a resilient 23-year old wife and mother living in a cabin and trapping with her family in the 1700s. One day, a terrible accident happens by the river, killing Maggie's loving husband and her only child. Suddenly, Maggie is very alone with barely enough food to sustain her while a daunting winter looms ahead.

Rather than give up, Maggie learns to trap her food and build fires while dealing with her staggering grief over the loss of her family. It is only her faith in God that brings her true comfort in the night. When a Shawnee hunting party finds her, they take her to a nearby village where a French fur trader lives. As Maggie begins to make new friends, she vows to never marry or have more children. God, however, has other plans for her.

"Our heavenly father will restore us even when we think it is impossible and we are not the most cooperative," says Cook. "Maggie lost everything and was willing to live her life as it was, but God wanted her to have more. This is her journey from despair to restoration."
