SARAH JANE Book is Based upon Actual Accounts

A manuscript passed down through the generations arrived in author Beth Carty's hands. The manuscript was written by Carty's great-great-great-great aunt Mary Newton Stanard and told the story of a young girl growing up in the aftermath of the Civil War. Carty undertook the task of editing her aunt's manuscript to produce the historical novel, "Sarah Jane" (published by WestBow Press).
The titular character of "Sarah Jane" is based largely upon Stanard and her own observations in post-Civil War America. Sarah is a southern girl who has entered a stage of life filled with uncertainty just as the country is in an era of uncertainty. She is loyal to God, the Confederacy and her family. She longs for the perfect admirer while avoiding romantic entanglement with the neighbor's son, a Yankee.
"My readers will be fascinated not only by the era and time in history the characters lived, but also by the inside glimpse of Southern thought and feeling in the wake of the Civil War," Carty says.
With this work, Carty will follow in the footsteps of Stanard, an accomplished author. Readers may recognize Stanard from her works such as "The Story of Bacon's Rebellion" and "The Dreamer."
