Rubicon's Theatre Company's trips to New York and London typically sell-out within days of being announced. The company's trips have earned a reputation for offering unique behind-the-scenes experiences that cannot be arranged privately. This year, the company has added a new tour -- a first-ever theatre excursion to Chicago later this month.

The 5-day/4-night package, October 23 to October 27, includes round-trip air fare and ground transportation from Rubicon; rooms at the historic Blackstone (a Beaux-Arts hotel built in 1910 which has welcomed 12 presidents, movie stars, sports legends, royalty, and even Al Capone); a guided tour of the Chicago Art Institute; and a gourmet tasting menu created by celebrity Iron Chef Jose Garces at Mercat a la Planxa, which earned Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand 2014.

The trip includes four shows at Chicago's premiere theatre venues: Smokefall at The Goodman Theatre (an encore run of the number one play on the Chicago Tribune's "Best Theater of 2013" list); Conor MacPherson's new play Night Alive at Steppenwolf (New York Drama Critic Circle Award for Best Play of 2013-2014); an evening of improv at the hilarious Second City (alumni include Steve Carell, Tina Fey and Stephen Colbert), and the pre-Broadway World Premiere musical Amazing Grace at Broadway in Chicago with Josh Young and Erin Mackey. Rubicon has also arranged a meet-and-greet with artists at the hotel so that attendees can learn more about the Chicago theatre scene.

Rubicon co-founder and Producing Artistic Director Karyl Lynn Burns and Development Manager Alyson Melling (who has appeared onstage at Rubicon in recent productions of Noises Off and Private Lives) will accompany travelers.

Says Melling, "This will be a beautiful time of year to be in Chicago. In addition to the planned group events, we will have some free time for attendees to enjoy the fall colors, shop on Michigan Avenue, check out the incredible architecture and perhaps enjoy some jazz or music offerings."

The cost for the tour package is $2,595 per person double occupancy, and includes a tax-deductible donation to Rubicon. To sign up, or for additional information, call Alyson Melling at 805.667.2900 ext. 237 or e-mail her at amelling@rubicontheatre.org to reserve your place.
