The joys of travel provide an opportunity to explore foreign cultures, enjoy breathtaking sceneries and meet interesting people. And for author Froylán Tiscareño who has enjoyed travelling and constant moving, he would like to share his experiences with like-minded readers.

Flexible Domiciles contain interesting narratives of his travels that spans an interval of over twenty years (1976-1997). This book includes a travelogue in Europe during a sabbatical year from the author's job as professor of mathematics at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Then there's also a day-to-day description of building his family's dream house and stories detailing their struggles while leaving one residence and moving to another.

This book starts with a day-to-day narrative of his travel in Europe while enjoying the thrills and challenges of a year's sabbatical. After a tour of England and Scotland, he explores France, the BDR (West Germany), the DDR (E. Germany), Czechoslovakia (current Czech Republic), and Poland before settling in for the winter in the town of Rastatt. He also explores Spain, Morocco, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Returning via ferry, he made some stops in the coastal towns of Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split-Zadar-Pag), finally covering Slovenia with its capital Ljubljana.

In "Owner-Builder," the author recounts the problems he encountered while he acted as his own contractor. Coordinating the various subcontractors to work together to get the job done, he gained experience that convinced him that he would not want to do it again. In the last stories of this book, he concentrates on moving experiences. "Leaving Quail Ridge" is all about selling his dream home, while "Finding Liquid Amber" details the adventures of landing at his current domicile in Irvine, Calif.

Flexible Domiciles is an enjoyable read that reflects the author's stories constantly moving from one place to another. His sabbatical trip underscores his nomad experience, with all the ever-changing camping domiciles. These stories weave tales of reality that will grab one's attention like few others. Furthermore, it offers a window to past history and how he coped with problems back then.
